CL EXCLUSIVE: ‘A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE’ CAST AFTER PARTY (SPONSORED BY SOUTHERN COMFORT)

April 4th, 2012

Concrete Loop was invited to the preview of the newest revival of Tennesse Williams’ classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire. The 2012 edition features a great ensemble cast including: Blair Underwood, Nicole Ari Parker, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Wood Harris and the legendary Carmen De Lavallade. The play was directed by Emily Mann and will officially open on April 22nd for a limited time only.

Overall, it was a great effort and amazing chemistry within the cast. Originally debuting on Broadway back in 1947, this rendition features a multi ethnic cast. Nicole Ari Parker fills the shoes of late great actresses Jessica Tandy and Vivian Leigh in her role as Blanche, giving a great performance and might I add Tony worthy. Blair Underwood took on the role as Stanley with a vengeance and during some confrontational scenes he steals the show. Actor Wood Harris (best known for starring in hit HBO show, The Wire) brought a softness to role of Mitch and Broadway vet Daphne Rubin-Vega was a believable Stella.

After the play, the stars headed to the Bourbon Street bar and celebrated. Check out our exclusive photos below and also keep reading to see how you can check out a showing using our special discount code.

Wow! Blair Underwood never seems to age and his wife is beautiful. Carmen is so elegant. And Wood Harris…damn, damn, damn…

i may have to check this out actually. the ticks are a lil unreasonable considering the supporting characters are the only ones w/ theater backgrounds…but the broadhurst is an excellent location for this reason. you can get the cheapest tick and still experience a great show.

I was able to attend the preview last night, and for someone like Nicole Ari Parker who has no previous theatre background; she did an amazing job in the role she played. I do believe that a Tony Award is in her future.

I look forward to seeing this play. Blair Underwood has been in the game for a minute, and I am glad to see that he is stll a working actor, unlike some.

I would LOVE to see this on Broadway with this cast. I am a huge fan of the movie with Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando.
