MUSIC VIDEO: SABI – “WHERE THEY DO THAT AT” (FT. WALE)

April 25th, 2012

Warner Brothers recording artist Sabi (formerly of girl group, The Bangz) dropped the official music video for her second introductory single, “Where They Do That At.” The Inglewood-native teamed up with Maybach Music Group’s Wale for the Dr Luke & Cirkut-produced track and Tim Cruz-directed clip. Peep the video & behind-the-scenes footage down below. Definitely a dope jam for the summer.

So you think it’s okay to just jack Aaliyah whole entire style. NOT.

I knew it wasn’t Aaliyah…but I did do a double take as well. She just looks, dress and acts like Aaliyah did in “Rock The Boat” video.

Aaliyah’s true fans will come out swinging. They’re not going to take too kindly to this. First it that other female artist that did her imitation of Aaliyah, now its this one imitating Aaliyah.

There are many females that favor, resemble, and look like Aaliyah (myself being one of them) but do I think Sabi jacked her style? Definitely not! I love this song and this chick has true talent. She indeed does favor Aaliyah but that she can’t help. People get in an up roar about the most non relevant stuff that’s is ridiculous. So basically anyone light skin long hair pretty slim and can sing chick shouldn’t try to make in the industry because of Aaliyah? Get a life people. SERIOUSLY!!!!

She does sort of favor Aaliyah here (with the hair, makeup, styling, mannerisms etc.) and I feel like the allusion could be intentional. Either way, the song is not appealing to me in any way.. really unfortunate.

Call me crazy. But when I first saw her pic she was giving me Aaliyah, Toni B, Mya, and Cassie in the face.

Anywho the song is okay, but to me it’s not really gonna go anywhere. But she is absolutely GORG!

She is fine as hell. Looking at her kept me watching the video. The only thing I do wish is that she brought a little more originality. I do see that Aaliyah thing going on but what these females singers need to realize is that you can’t even try to step into that lane. It’s no different from Lady Gaga and Madonna. Carve a lane for yourself, Aaliyah made a MASSIVE impact so don’t bite her style even a little bit.

I def see Aaliyah in this video. But I think she was paying homage to her. I wished she would have danced in the video though. Either way I liked the song and I hope she goes far in the industry. I’m just glad someone is bringing this style back. I’m sick of everyone dressing like they belong on Mars.

I like the song ! It’s hot. She has Toni’s face and Aaliyah hair and body. But I do have one question why does she have that one outfit change? Lol A turban don’t change the outfit.

She looks a lot like Toni Braxton. Her hair style, makeup, and outfit is Aaliyah’s style and I’m sorry, but I have yet to see another light skinned chick in the industry as beautiful as Aaliyah was. I’m not feeling her voice or her music. She’s cute… but that’s about it. And that lace wig looks a mess in the front, it looks like you can pull it right off.

I can’t front she does remind me of Aaliyah . I mean she can’t help who she looks like but there will only be Aaliyah . Record labels be trippn. The dancing , swagg, hair, boyish attitude but beautiful face? Smh guess we will have to see. But the song is ok it has to grow on me

Ummmm not to get all “colorist” on y’all but ummm I thought Aaliyah was brown skinned :-/ (watch rock the boat she has some dancers that are light skinned but she’s clearly darker than them) ummm this chick had an aaliyah weave and baggy pants that’s about it she’s cute but no where close to the immense beauty that Aaliyah possessed and this song sucks wale can’t save it sorry. Good message but tired delivery and that robotic auto tune ish towards the end gotta go. I liked her better in the cobra starship song she seemed to have her own personality in that one.

I agree with all the Aaliyah comparisons. I refuse to believe she didn’t influence Sabi. The songs wasn’t bad but it isn’t good. Tip: if you can’t dance in your heels, don’t wear them for dance scenes. Just saying lol.

I think she only looks like Aaliyah with her hairstyle and her crop belly shirt and sagging pants. That was Aaliyah’s style from head to toe. But she doesn’t look or sound like her. I really wish this girl would just be herself and that the music industry wouldn’t try and mold her into being the next Rihanna or the next Aaliyah. It’s really frustrating and annoying to have this new girl show up trying to swagger jack someone’s whole style or sound. I’m just like be yourself. You won’t make it very far if you sound like Rihanna and everyone thinks you’re Rihanna or if you’re dressing up like Aaliyah. It’s kinda disrespectful IMO. Ciara and Ashanti were compared to Aaliyah as well and Ciara had similar style to Aaliyah but she didn’t dress from head to toe to resemble her. And Ashanti was Aaliyah’s rival at the time and they had similar styles as well, but she grew into her own sense of style. But with Sabi, the music industry is just trying to throw her into all these roles. First she’s Rihanna, now she’s Aaliyah? I want to know more about Sabi. I don’t need a new Aaliyah or another Rihanna.

Ugh this is pissing me off. Okay so we all know Aaliyah was great, beautiful, talented and all that but she was not the only light completed long hair woman that had laid back vibes and is a tomboy . Y is it that EverytIme a person comes out that resembles her we feel that they are tryin to be like Aaliyah !? How do we know that this is not sabi personality too. It’s not her fault if she resembles Aaliyah !!!! That doesn’t mean she Tryna impersonate her. There had been ppl before Aaliyah that were light complected , wore baggy clothes, we’re tomboyish laid back had long black hair and wore their part on the far left like Aaliyah did . No dissrespect to Aaliyah tho. R.i.p. angel
