I will never understand why GOD thought it was her time to go and the time for the other passengers on that plane, but in her short life she showed what it was like to be famous, and talented and STILL be able to be that girl next door like the voice over said. We just enjoy the memories and the music which btw even when I hear it TODAY I sounds so NEW! its that amazing? Well, Aaliyah was amazing, just makes sense her music would be too :)

Ok, I know people are going to hate me, but please can we give it a rest with Aaliyah? ALL the LIVES that were lost that day were tragic and sad, not just hers. And I’m sorry but Aaliyah wasn’t this great iconic singer, she was simply a very beautiful girl with an average singing voice and acting skills. I believe the shock of her death, in combination with her looks is what’s driving the continuous tributes each year.

Really? Like we’ve never seen a pretty female singer before? The entertainment industry is stocked full of them. Aaliyah is beloved because people loved her music. She also very much had her own fashion and dance style, both of which made her memorable. Her humble demeanor, talent and beauty endeared her to millions. She had it all w/o ever being overly diva-ish or skanky or sexed-up or attention-whoring etc. She was just herself, and people loved her for it. If you insist on over-generalizing and saying she just pretty with a decent voice…you are missing the big picture. If the public could only ever pay tribute to the best singers in the world, only 5 or 6 people would ever be honored. Music is so much bigger than that.

It’s not good to hate, Obviously a lot of people think she is an Iconic artist and that’s why she is still remembered almost 11 years later. Don’t be mad because Aaliyah get’s more love than your fav.

I respect your opinion, but talent isn’t measured by how loud and how big you are. It’s all about how you connect with people and how you make an impact in their lives. Aaliyah used her voice to touch people in ways that only she could, because her gift was designed to reach people on a personal level. She always communicated with the greatest passion, whether the song was sexy & smooth (“One in a Million”, “Rock the Boat”) or way down deep from her diaphragm (“Journey to the Past”, “The One I Gave My Heart To” – Radio Version, “Giving Up”). As an actress, Aaliyah was above average from the start. She was a pleasure to watch because her natural ability saved her from appearing stiff and unfeeling on screen. In everything she did, Aaliyah conveyed a very promising future. She was blossoming in her own right as a young entertainer and the world was taking notice. It still is, and that’s why I appreciate “Behind the Music: Aaliyah” and every other tribute that shows respect and appreciation for Aaliyah.

Yes Aaliyah was beautiful lady but I just think her death and the time of it (@ the hype of her career) just left people in shock b/c she left people wanting more. Also, the fact that she was so young and loved by many many people young & older and never a bad headline about her. There just hasnt been another ‘Aaliyah’ even though she didn’t have a distinctive vocal ability, but she was talented though (badass dancer and good actress). In the hispanic community-they recently did a cover of Selena (People magzine) and they are doing a concert for her. She was young, beautiful, very popular among a wide range of ages, won a grammy, her career was at its hype and death was unexpected as well. So no its not just the looks that’s making people keeping her memory alive

      oopps wasnt done…

but its how well her fans related to her. She wasn’t a dislikable artist. She keep her image and celebrity down to earth and very chill 24/7. Back then (and now)-not to many artist keep their celebrity chill cause if your not provactive or actin a damn fool or just wearing some crazy shit-doing whatever to get attention, then you would lose the spotlight quickly.
      OKAY DONE :)

I agree, Kyoto. I really enjoyed Aaliyah and she seemed like a wonderful person, but really average singer and actress. perhaps with more time, she would have gotten even better. Needless to say, her contributions are missed by many.

@Kyoto I so agree with you. All those things are what made the death relevant. It’s sad to lose anyone, but her star was just starting to shine honestly (No. 1 film, album, Matrix movie…), it wasn’t like she was a heavy hitter in music or film like that. And then I have to wonder what would her relvancy still be if she was around.

You know I had to come by and comment on this one!! She was one in a million. No female artist out today has the Special something that LiLi had. They all try to be a special as she was but they can’t and I’m so very proud that these young ladies out hold Aaliyah in such HIGH regard.

I mean to remain relevant 10 years after your death is astonishing. The thing about Aaliyah was there was never really any closure with her and her career. She left everybody wandering how her success was going to play out. Honestly, we never had a singer who was as humble as Aaliyah. And we wanted to see someone as pleasant as her enjoy her success, because she deserved it. Her death was tragic but it’s a time and place for everything. I think she served her purpose on earth.

Aaliyah will always remain relevant because like said above…her career had no closure and it kept us wondering “what if”. She was truly one in a million and honestly she kept it real. She was a lot more classy and just wholesome where as these days artist aren’t. The industry/entertainment world will never be the same without her because her style and voice was unique…every single artist of today loves Aaliyah…there’s a reason. That reason is because Aaliyah was fire, she was undefined and always a mystery. I love baby girl and she’s always missed.

whack parents pushing a dream of theirs instead of guiding their daughter in life….her best song was back n forth also her first song on radio….after she married r. kelly her parents should hhave reeled her in then and ended this dumb career…..too young, not extremely talented, naive, vulnerable, average
