Nicki Minaj sat down with ABC’s ‘Nightline’ and talked about how she sees herself as an artist, pointed out her real reason for becoming a rapper and how she didn’t come in to the game to be a role model for young girls. The animated artists also talked about her childhood, her multiple personalities and shared her real thoughts on the Lady Gaga comparisons:
ON BEING A ROLE MODEL:
I don’t want to offend Moms or children like when they come and pay their money to see a show. But I didn’t come in the game to be an artist that appealed to kids either. So (I’m a grown up) and I’m a crazy lunatic.
ON BEING COMPARED TO LADY GAGA:
Offend me? No. Irks me? Yeah. First of all, I’m a rapper. Okay? First of all I’m a rapper from Southside Jamaica, Queens. What are the similarities? Wigs? Every female in this game wears wigs. Over the top costumes? Ehh! Try again…] No, because it’s getting tired though to me. In the beginning I was like, ‘hahaha. Gaga’s a fantastic artist. Like you know she’s paved her lane. She has opened her own lane. I feel like I have my own lane. And we never cross. Ever!
