ABC’s ‘Primetime’recently held an another experiment on its popular show, ‘What Would You Do?,’ where people are faced with that very question when experiencing a dilemma or uncomfortable situation that tests their personal character and values.
In a more recent segment, John Quiñones has actors Carlton and Olivia play an interracial couple pretend that they are meeting one of their parents for the first time. In the clip, a Caucasian young woman is sitting with her father (who also happens to be an actor) and introduces him to her boyfriend, an African-American male.
As onlookers watch the far from quiet event, one person reacted to the father’s negative reaction and didn’t appreciate his blatant racism, others agreed with the father’s disapproval of their relationship, especially one elderly woman. Watch and see what happened in the clip below. What would you do?

Whew! I have to say I was a bit ticked at the two old women esp. the the one who referred to that handsome young man as “that”. Then she says that Mexicans are white so they are okay. There has been so much open blatant racism lately last 5 years, and every more so with the whole Trayvon Martin shooting. I hope those in denial are going to open their eyes. With the focus being put so much on these issues it is sad that some black people’s ignorance is making us hard to defend…
Anyway I have never been against interracial dating. If it is really for the person and not just because they aren’t white or aren’t black. Saying things like “I don’t date black women anymore because all black women are ____” I don’t think anyone should be put in a box/ stereotyped, let people prove themselves.
Of course if you go to small rural towns in places such as Utah, you’re bound to receive that kind of response/backlash. If they took this same experiment to bigger cities, most wouldn’t bat an eye.

Of course if you were in a homogenous community, you would get reactions like these. That’s why I pointed out “bigger cities” because they tend to mix. Even if it was a bigger city with a high percentage of blacks , I really doubt many would say anything. Maybe a few stares and eye rolling, but most wouldn’t be as disgustingly vocal.

They went to Utah because Utah is far more representative of how the caucasian in America actually thinks and feels than New York City, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles. There are entire states with millions of people that are comprised of over 90% caucasians, and they think just like the caucasian elders in this clip. It is the simple-minded blacks that live in the “city” that are under the grand delusion, and even in the cities, people are segregated by nationality. All across America, you have what are known as “sundown towns” where blacks are not allowed after sundown.

I feel ashamed that I chuckled when the actor said “How did you get into my daughters school”, “A basketball scholarship”. SMH! The lady who cried was really the ultimate shock for me, I was taken back and because she was actually upset that her daughter has a black FRIEND, a FRIEND. Are you serious!? She cried because she was caught being a racist on camera. She thinks black people are like pets and only made an exception for the mexican reporter because he was there in front on her face. People don’t like to accept it but I know most white people her age think the same way as do many of the younger ones. I absolutely love that it was exposed here.

Misconceptions about black people were formed long before we came to America. It’s not an ‘American’ thing. Racists don’t discriminate about their dislike of Africans currently inhabiting any continent, country, city or village. I noticed them they were actually the first to be pointed out in the show and I was really surprised and happy about it. But the reactions from the two ladies that cried over the dysfunctional negative feelings of there views of certain people were more shocking to me. I’m over the race thing. it is well know to not to travel through certain towns at night if you are black just like white people know not to get lost in certain neighborhoods. WHY do people especially black people get offend when someone use the word colored people – hello NAACP stands for national assoc for the advancement of COLORED PEOPLE. Yes I’m black. It’s ok to have a black group or organization but if we had an orginazation for national assoc for the advancement of white people it’s racism….. I’m more upset with Swedish Minister of Culture carving into a cake depicted an African tribal woman’s breasts now that’s racism.

I agree 100% You have been on point for years. (I have been lurking since ’05/’06 I think) I live in London in the UK where there seems to be a huge increase in these interracial relationships over the last few years especially black males and women of other races and it’s ridiculous we should not be diluting our race and introducing God knows what into our bloodline… I wish blacks overall would stop kissing the white mans a$$. Most don’t even realise it. I married a wise black man and with his guidance I will raise my son to look beyond the false world views that these devils have perpetuated for far too long. I hope to God my son will learn to “play the game” with YT folks. I have worked in the “mental health” field and I see that with the patients and life in general it is mostly men that experience the real pressures of life, black males especially, therefore in order to “succeed” in in this world black men they have to realise who they really are and what they are here for.
What your saying is true STARBURST. Overtime black people have been broken and have lost the ability to see there true value and worth. Wish is why the majority of black people fail to succeed or get far in life. But spitting out hate will not help us to succeed as a race it will not bring black men and women together to build strong successful families and putting the blame on others (white people) will not help us to succeed either. You wont get anywhere until to decide to take responsibility for your actions. I don’t feel that there is anything wrong with interracial relationships you cant choose who you fall in love with. We are all in this together not just black people but all races we need to stick together to get through this ride called life. TOGETHER not separated.

This is why I’ve stated numerous times, and maintain, that the black man must step away from the vast majority of these black females for a while and get back to the scriptures and the Most High. The black man has to purge his own demons before he can purge the black woman of hers (the few black women that can be purged), because they cannot purge out their own. All successful races start with their own. As per Bea’s comment: hmm..I agree with the part that some Americans shouldn’t call themselves African American because alot are extremely negative toward Africans and the culture more than caucasians.
