Sad news to report. Iconic disco singer Donna Summer has passed away after a battle with cancer, TMZ reports. There aren’t many details since many news outlets are currently researching, however it was reported she was in Florida at the time of her death.
Rising to fame in the 70s, with hits like “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls.”, Donna was ahead of her time with her moves and vocal arrangements. You might also remember her 80s hits, “She Works Hard for the Money” and “This Time I Know It’s for Real” too. Back in 2010, we honored Donna is our music throwback post, check out a link to that post below. Rest in Peace.

R.I.P Donna Summer
RIP to Donna Summer man all of the icons are passing not a great year
I was just getting ready to make the same comment. So far every month this year, an iconic legend has passed. Usually it’s only one or two a year. Quite sad.
OMG, what a shocker!!! So saddened by this. I had no idea she was suffering, no idea.
Me either!!!I’m really truly saddened by this news. First Don Cornelius, then Whitney, Dick Clark and now Donna Summer, not a good year so far in 2012, all the legends are leaving, really sad….
adding Mr. Gibbs to that too
I’m sick right now! My two favorite divas of all time GONE..within months of each other..
i’m so feeling your pain, Indigo,,,,there are no words….my Beloved Donna and my Beloved Whitney gone at the same time…it is all too much….Whitney, Donna, I will see you in Heaven…i willl be on time for the concerts up there….i was sooooo looking forward to your next releases, Donna. what can I say… it is on to the next life for you both….thank you for your gifts. this seems all so untimely, but, the call comes when God is ready….it is not up to us.
At least brandy still with us.
R.I.P,but damn i hate disco with a passion.
Hey little homie, we dont like your dusty azz either. Shout out to you
The common denomiator that makes everyone equivalent; DEATH
We all take the same journey in the end.
There are only 2 things in life that are absolute: death & taxes. Sad
Man! I had no idea she was battling cancer. Crazy. I just brought a bunch of her songs on itunes last month. Smh. R.I.P
SMH, Another Legend gone. R.I.P Donna
Wow I’ve heard of her but I never she was black yet alone that young
This was definitely an unwanted surprise; I had NO idea she was suffering with cancer. The only thing I’m glad about is she is no longer suffering; my prayers are with her family.
R.I.P TO AN AMAZING TALENTED WOMAN!!
Was this the act of the music industry sacrificing another black legend? *waits from that grumpy old troll who lives under the bridge A.K.A JUDAH*
You must want to join me under that bridge lol. I’m always on your mind, day and night, rain or shine. At least you spelled “idiotic” correctly this time.
Damn she has the same age as my dad… Rest In Peace, she was VERY UNDERRATED and didnt get the props she deserved! Another legend gone. God bless us all.
One of the best ever!!! RIP
Her music was covered or sampled by some of your favorites. Ex: Faith Evans (Heaven Knows), Jennifer Lopez (On The Radio), Beyonce’ Naughty Girl (Love To Love You Baby), Nas Street Glory (Once Upon a Time), Ne-Yo She’s Got Her Own (My Baby Understands) and Raekwon Rainy Dayz (No More Tears).
R.I.P Donna Summer
THANK YOU so much for educating the masses – myself included – about the major impact Ms. Summer had on present-day music beyond the obvious that I knew from her more well-known songs such as Heaven Knows (my personal fave); On the Radio; Love to Love You; etc… She truly was a gift and an innovative artist. I now more fully understand how under-rated she was in the U.S. and how/why she was so popular in Europe especially.
We are losing so many of our black celebirties within a 6 month span. Rest In Peace Donna Summer and sing with Whitney and Etta in the heavnley chior.
r.i.p.
R.I.P. Donna Summer…. so really truthly sad..
love her music: Love to love you baby, Dim all the lights, I feel love, McCarther’s Parks, Bad Girls, enough is enough ( duet with Barbara Straisain (sp)) some of my favorites.
Ho, and last dance; just peep the video.
Kelly Rowlings if you read this, please go all out for the role if someone wants to do a movie on Donna Summers’ life. I think from a singing prospective, you would be perfect for the role. I’ve seen your acting ( The seat Filler, girlfriends ) it was not bad. N E way go for it.
I was thinking the same exact thing! Kelly reminds me alot of Donna Summer. Even down to the way she wears her hair sometimes. Lol. If they ever decide to do a movie on Donna’s life, Kelly would be perfect for it.
Never heard of her, but I do reespect the dead, R.I.P DONNA!!
I probably have heard her music just did’nt know who was singing it.
