TV BIT: ROCSI & TERRENCE J OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE THEIR DEPARTURE ON ’106 & PARK’

May 30th, 2012

After seven years of hosting BET’s 106 & Park, former radio personality Rocsi Diaz and acting newbie Terrence J officially announced their upcoming departure from the music video countdown show. On Tuesday night’s airing (May 29), the two of them took a moment out to share their decision and fondest memories with their audience and at-home viewers.

According to reports, Terrence J may have landed a hosting gig on the E! network and Rocsi is looking to possibly pursue a career as an actress. Peep the entire transcript and video is down below. Congrats to the both of them!

TERRENCE: There’s been a lot of talk. It’s been all over the place and honestly it’s been premature because we haven’t decided until now. We’ve always use this platform to speak to you and today it’s more important than ever.

ROCSI: To start off, we’ve only been able to accomplish everything that it was because we put God first in our lives and he has always led us and continues to lead us in all of our steps.

TERRENCE: So here it goes..After an amazing seven years of being on this show, we have decided together that we will be soon leaving 106 and Park as your hosts. This by no stretch of the imagination has been an easy decision, but it’s the right one. And it has come after a lot of prayer, a lot of thought and a lot of consideration. First, we’d like to start by thanking BET. This has been an incredible opportunity and we are looking forward to continuing our relationship. There’s no way that we are giving up the keys to the door, not just yet. I remember when we first got the call from Stephen Hill that we would even be the host of 106 and Park…

ROCSI: I remember. I mean at the time, I was a struggling radio personality in Chicago. I was in a city where I had no family, I had few friends and I felt so alone there and I was just trying so hard in a career that I had so many walls already and no windows. I just had so many big big dreams and no voice. Really.

TERRENCE: I had just graduated from North Carolina A&T the year before. I had a job in Corporate America that I lost. People thought I was crazy because I had lost my job and I had no idea how I was going to pay off my student loans and if it wasn’t for my frat brothers, my brother Fred and my boys and family coming together…The first day I cracked the mic on 106, I was staying on a cot on the floor and staying in basements. I don’t know what would have happened. I know where we would have been without this.

ROCSI: We both agree that we had no idea and we can’t express how amazing the last seven years have been, how life changing this time has been, and we appreciate you guys so much. [tears up] We love you. You guys at home, the viewers, you guys have been down with us from day one. You’ve let us be a part of your world, your life. Everybody here from being the livest audience, everyone in their living room, it’s your energy that fuels us and kept us going and keeps us going still after today.

TERRENCE: There has been so many meaningful moments that we have shared with you guys. When that earthquake happened in Haiti, people were calling 106 so that we could shout them out and send messages to their loved one, When Michael Jackson passed, when Whitney Houston passed, you know this show is where everyone turned to to watch their videos and celebrate their lives. When we got our first black president. The inauguration of our first black president, all of those moments we shared them here at 106 and park and we are humbled to be a part of your lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

ROCSI: And while we are here, and until the moment we leave, we pledge to continue to bring you young black culture daily in a way that you’ve never seen anywhere else and it continues – this isn’t our last day, we will be back – but it continues to be our honor to even do this for you guys. We really appreciate you guys.

TERRENCE: So big things are ahead. We’re super excited about the next steps that we are going to take in our lives but please believe that we will be leaving with a bang. Stay close and stay by our sides because we have a huge farewell show coming for you guys. A lot of big surprise guests that will be coming by the show and you know we’re going to go out with a bang. Stay tuned! More details to come. We love you.

Wish them the best of luck. Terrence definitely has a career in acting – saw him in “Act like a woman, think like a man” he was GOOD! Rocsi is probably f*cking Eddie Murphy, so I’m sure she’ll be ok.

Good luck to them. Now it’s time to revamp BET. I stopped watching 106 because it became kid-centered, they need a show for 20-somethings. They also need to go back to playing videos.

who cares, these two should have been off the show a long time ago, especially with some of the antics they’ve pulled.

Bye ! For months I was wondering when they were leaving.

They need to cancel it. AJ & Free were the best, haven’t watch it since since it became a teenage based show. BET needs a change.

    LOL @ Indigo.

    Bye Terrence and Rosci.

    ALL THESE OLD PEOPLE COMMENTING

AJ AND FREE NOT COMING BACK!!! “They need to play videos” YOU obviously do not watch the show so sit —-> _/

106&Park is the new TRL so it will always be for the younger crowd.

I agree that a 20-something show should be considered but that’s not 106 at all.

I wish them both well on their journey! I know they both will go far :-)

      106 & Park IS A 20-Something show.
Teen Summit was for the teenagers… But anything too close to right doesn’t make the cut on BET.

Speaking as a former fan of the show. You have to be old to have an opinion. 106 & Park hasn’t been 106 & Park since Free and AJ were let go. They built the show. BET is now nothing more than a revolving door Z-list talent and is becoming a joke. They never seem to want to pay for quality and that’s why they will continue to lose folks like Free & AJ, Monique – the Monique Show, Tia Mowry & Pooch Hall – The GAME. It’s blatantly obvious that BET cares more about the money than the quality of the shows that are aired.

Good Riddance!! They need to do away with the whole BET network as a whole. A station that started out with so much potential at the beginning now resorts to using re-runs in order to gain their viewers. Nothing fresh or new is coming out of that network, so they might as well shut it down because so much money has been wasted.

    Just my OPINIONS:
Rocsi & Terrence are being diplomatic, but I don’t think they are leaving because they really want to leave. They are simply 2 more to add to the long list of employees are mistreated at BET and are forced to leave. This is the same thing that happened with Free and AJ, it was just plain dirty how they were let go to bring in Rocsi & Terrence. Free and AJ built 106 & Park. They financially mistreated the Oscar winning Monique who gave them and us one of the best late night talk shows on TV and never even gave a formal announcement that the show was cancelled, instead, they started airing re-runs to throw the audience off, then they moved the time slot to hours no one is up watching TV. They mistreated Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall – two of the main characters on The GAME by lying to them about pay increases they would receive if the show did well. They spoke up and stood their ground and were forced out because BET was unwilling to budge or keep their word. When BET first brought The Game back, the white actress who played Kelly was paid several thousands more then all of the Black cast members to come back. The reasoning was because she had already committed to a project that was paying here a certain salary and told BET the only way she would come back to The GAME was if BET matched or beat the other offer she had on the table. BET matched the salary. As you can see, the character of KELLY was phased out of the show….my guess is BET didn’t want to continue paying her more than they payed the others on the show. With two of the main characters gone from the show who helped make the show what it is, true fans of the GAME will stop watching. Bottomline, BET is not treating there people right by not wanting to pay them what they deserve or what they are promised and when they speak up about it, the are either backdoored with termination or they are backed into a corner where they are forced to leave. Such appears to have been the case with Free, AJ, Monique, Tia Mowry, and Pooch Hall. I’ve heard folks say that this was case when former BET owner Bob Johnson was in charge, but it seems to have become more blatant since he turned over leadership to Deborah Lee before selling BET to Viacom. BET has been on downward spiral ever since.

All of you people and your politics are so STRANGe!! Some of you guys act like you’ve been underpaid and worked there when in fact i actually know someone who wrks their currently and their not complaining and living quite well financially lol! I think to move on when yr simply to OLD to be hosting a show geared towrds 20 somethings is a NATURAL PROGRESSION! they just do not FIT the demographic anymore! thats how entertainment buissness works. The older you get you have to make adjustments to the type of wrk you do.

Blkplya u need to learn more about corporate america hun…BET isnt the only network that plays the game, all of the netwrks play an unfair game when it comes to billions of dollars from Ad revenue. In corporate America only the strong and smart profit, no pity is given to anyone.

It’s time for them to leave. Terrance is getting into acting and possibly hosting for E. He is trying to move into a bigger playing field. There is no need to keep Rocsi around especially since the show needs fresh new talent. BET isn’t treating anyone wrong. At the end of the day this is life, even people in corporate America who have worked with a company for years are let go. I’m sure both will be fine. Maybe Rocsi needs the show more than Terrance but I’m sure both will be doing well in the future.

It may be their time to leave and BET may not be treating these 2 wrong, I’m only speculating based on those they have done dirty in the past. I suppose that is life or at least life at BET.

I dunno why everyone keeps talking about AJ and Free? That was 8 years ago I believe? …. I love 106 & Park for the kids. I think Rocsi and Terrence did their thing and I am excited to see who is next. It’s really not that big of a deal. BUT to all these ppl who want AJ and free back… it’s kinda stale, let it go. xoxoxo

People need to get over AJ & Free. I understand that they were great hosts but their time has obviously passed.
I didn’t care for Terrence & Rocsi but I hope BET makes some changes .. the show does cater to teens which I think they should change, it’s too corny. I used to watch 106 & Park but it has seriously gone down hill .. shoot the entire station has gone down hill.

Terrance has a future in the acting world; he was good in the Game and in the Think like a Man movie. Rocsi on the other hand better neddle a hole in the condom so she can get pregnant for Eddie and be set for life. Just joking Rocsi, u fine you’ll get some kind of work in the entertainment business.

I don’t care why they are leaving, but I’m glad they are! Terrance was okay (he finally grew out of the cornball stage), but Rocsi always seemed to have a hard time reading the teleprompter. She was pretty and ethnic…not black, and that’s why she got the job in the first place.

I think he’ll have more of a career than she will. I also think that the decision has nothing to do with themn being treated unfairly, etc. but because they are getting older, and I think they were the first set of hosts that connected to that demographic truly. I mean, no offense to Free and AJ, but they were too old to be leading that show. I think Rosci and Terrence J were a good fit, and the next hosts should be young as well.

I agree with Blackplaya9891. Bob Johnson created BET and when he gave it over a lot of good people and good shows were done away. BET I grew up on so I know. Aj & FREE DID build 106&Park it has NEVER been the same and it won’t because they are the best at what they do. Respect to Terrence and Rocsi. Gook luck in your careers. BET does need change.

BET as a network sucks. The only time I watch BET is when the BET Awards come on and majority of the time I end up turning the channel on that because the show isn’t organized.

Best of Luck to Terrence and Rocsi, I’m sure they’re on to bigger and better things.
