Meet singer-songwriter, Yuna. Born and raised in the country of Malaysia, this 25-year-old brings a refreshing sound to the music world with her gentle vocals and warm song lyrics. She credits artists like Sia, The Cranberries, Bob Dylan, No Doubt and Fiona Apple for providing her with musical inspiration while growing up. It wasn’t until she was 19 years old and in law school that she decided to learn how to play the guitar. Since then her passion for creating music flourished and life has never been the same.

Within the next six years, Yuna made an imprint in the Malaysia music industry with her single “Deeper Conversation,” signed to the indie company, FADER Label and released her Decorate EP and first, studio album, Yuna in the United States. Earlier this year, she released “Live Your Life,” her lead single produced by super producer Pharrell Williams and has dropped a few music videos as well…

i’m sorry but just because she wears a head rap and sings with a lisp doesnt mean she’s “special” or different…! she’s boring elevator music with a face!

This is the music Solange wants to sing well, but looks contrived.

I hate when people sing like this!!! Yuck. Not original.. So many artist sound like this. Corrine Rae, Adele, so many other freakin caucasian artists… However, I like the music, I would like to purchase the music without the vocals! lol

Saw her Tuesday here in Portland and she was fantastic. She’s Malaysian (hints the head wrap) an her accent is all natural. I loved everything about her and meeting her was even better. Get into it.

I kinda like this. I may have to look her up.

I do agree that her song ‘Coffee’ is similar to the likes of Corinne Bailey Rae however, ‘Live Your Life’ isn’t and listening to these couple songs I don’t immediately think of Corinne or Adele, and I’m an avid Corinne listener, so I know lol.

But there’s nothing wrong with comparing artists with similar music/sounds, but why knock them for that? Why complain that there’s so many artists with this sound? There’s artists in other genres of music that “have the same sound” as well. IT seems like to me, some ppl just don’t enjoy a variety of music, and are quick to shut down different sounds/genres other than the typical rap, hip hop, r&b, pop stuff… I’m just sayin

Great post! Not only is her music great but her overall attitude is divine which is more than I can say about many artists today. Check out our interview with her :
