My take is shackles do not represent African slaves, but given the sensitivity of Blacks towards anything associated with slavery, I’m shocked that Adidas let the design get this far. I, personally, stand for creativity and thinking out the box, but in today’s climate, practically anything can be manipulated to look racist, and if an object has any association at all with racism or stereotypes, then one should expect a backlash.

I bet if my “artistic” side created something that would be perceived as offensive to the gay community, I bet Mr. Scott would be quite outraged and not so inclined to celebrate MY “artistry”.

I think the shoes should be sold. I don’t know if it was a conscious racist thing or maybe he was inspired by seeing something. Either way let the consumer market make it’s ruling. Hard to believe that people of any color would find nothing wrong with this shoe. We have contributed to our own demise long enough. Eveverything is political these days – believe it. And to control your mind and your spending is controlling your thoughts and your progress. People with the mentality of shackles will never reach their full potential or promise. Anyone purchasing these type of items are ‘screaming’ ignorance of their ancestry and of how the world is run. Be not of the world, but don’t be a fool in it! This was just another example of the low expectations that people have of a certain culture in our country, namely minorities who make them rich while suffering in the ignorance that’s being perpetrated. People should certainly be outraged if only to show that we care about something other than assimilating to a lifestyle that is ‘designed’ for us and not one that was promised.

Seems the more blatant racism is, the harder people try not to see it. Agreeing with it doesn’t make you smarter than the next. This reminds me of the fashion story that a German magazine did called “Ni##a B#tch”, which was apparently based on Rihanna. We also had another photo story from Italian Vogue with the title “Slave Earrings”. Im not surprised in the slightest about another global brand like Adidas not having the sense to see that this shoe would cause offence. At what point does social and cultural awareness come into play. To the people that say “ohh black people complain about everything!” Its funny, as I only ever hear that statement thrown at black people. Are we not allowed to air our issues?
