Pictured above is the Jeremy Scott ‘JS Roundhouse Mid’ sneaker collaboration with Adidas. The quirky designer has put out a few designs for the popular footwear line for the past few years but this particular sneaker has many people up in arms because of it’s blatant connection to slavery.
Various bloggers and even MSNBC spoke on how the show reminds them of slave shackles and just weeks after the visuals of the sneaker was released online, ADIDAS is pulling it due to the negative backlash. Check out their OFFICIAL STATEMENT below:
“The sneaker is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback. We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace.”
The ‘JS Roundhouse Mid’ wasn’t supposed to come out until August and according to reports Jeremy Scott was inspired by 1980s toy ‘My Pet Monster’ when making the design. Either way it won’t see the light of day any longer. What’s your take on this shoe, were you offended?
