FASHION: JAY-Z & WALE BOTH WEAR FLORALS, ARE WE FEELING THIS MENSWEAR TREND?

June 23rd, 2012

First they were wearing leopard, now the fellas of Hollywood are taking their newfound love of prints above and beyond, moving on from animal motifs to tropical florals. Following in the footsteps of their female counterparts, celebs like Jay-Z and Wale are proving that floral prints aren’t just for the ladies anymore.

Wale performed at ‘Ditch Fridays’ at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, and took the poolside summer vibe to heart, rocking a pair of PRPS floral camo cargo shorts. The floral print is subtle and is balanced by the military silhouette of the cargo pant. Wale’s shorts are available from Nordstrom for $126.

Jay-Z took in a tennis match between Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer during the French Open in Paris, France, and he kept his look relaxed wearing a black tee, white sweatshirt across the shoulders, black Persol sunglasses, and a Leroy Jenkins black palms jungle backward cap.

Rather than going for a traditional floral, Jay opted for a more on trend tropical print. Wearing such a bold print simply as an accent adds interest to a look without being overwhelming. Get Jay’s hat from LJ All Day for only $46.

I can’t get passed Wale and that outfit so I may be biased on those shorts. I don’t like them at all.

Jay-Z’s “swag” if you will, makes anything look good.

Most blacks (especially female) are closed minded to what our men wear and are particularly narrow minded when it comes to men wearing something not thuggish or hood.

I agree too. Blacks tend to a lot more paranoid to fashion changes and too stuck on over done trends as well.

That’s not true. Black women like the hood look and a nice corporate/tailored look as well. What most black women don’t like, is our men becoming more effeminate. First it was the man purses, wearing pink, and now floral? The other poster had it right, what’s next dresses and skirts? Where the hell do we draw the line?

      @CIRCA

We’ll draw the line once they start wearing skirts and dresses lol. Hopefully it’s not too late by then

@Dev well a hit dog will holler, right? I kid but I’ve seen/heard it firsthand and I’m sure you have to. and @circa how is shorts with plants related to wearing dresses? if you saw a chubby white guy on the golf course wearing a floral-Hawaiian type shirt, does that make him effeminate as well?

Bottom line these men want to be woman. You can say what you want. My man does not wear womens clothes and he is not a thug and dresses very nice. First the rhinestones and now flowers. Half of you are probably sleeping wih a gay man and don’t know it. Or maybe you do who knows.

This is possibly the stupidest post I’ve ever read on here, and that’s saying a lot. These are hardly florals. Just CL looking for some faux-controversy.

Wale’s shorts are kinda dope, the floral print isn’t like popping out. It almost looks like army fatigue from a distance. Jigga’s hat though is another story.

Some of y’all need to quit, it’s 2012 fashion is suppose to evolve. What’s considered masculine now may be considered feminine 1,000 years from now, Just look at the stuff people wore in the past.

What I do know is clothes don’t make the men and if you are with a man because of HOW he dresses then you need to re-evaluate your priorities as well as your goals in life.

I personally love that hat, but I never thought Jay-z could dress. And Wale usually dresses plain, I don’t like his outfit but I do not hate it. His locs are really nice you know, they never look like they need re-twisting I think he is actually cute….. There is nothing wrong with men wearing floral or any kind of print, if they wear it well it is okay with me.

    Seriously?

I remember men used to wear these kinds of clothes back in the 80′s and 90′s (i.e. Hawaiian shirts). This isn’t anything new. Miami Vice.

People are so stupid. That is that givenchy swag. And yes some dudes are wearing “skirts”. If you know anything about fashion, skirts have been walking down the runway in men’s fashion for deacdes. From gaultier to rick Owens. One thing for sure, it doesn’t make u less of a man. But I wouldn’t be surprised if no one else understood this concept, on here.
