MOVIE TRAILER: ‘DJANGO UNCHAINED’ (STARRING JAMIE FOXX, KERRY WASHINGTON & MORE)

June 7th, 2012

After much speculation about who would play the lead role, the official trailer for the Quentin Tarentino film Django Unchained premiered on national television earlier this week. The highly anticipated film stars Jamie Foxx as Djanjo with supporting roles played by Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The film is set to premiere on Christmas Day (December 25th) in the US and on January 18th in the UK. Check out the official trailer and summary below. Looks like it’s going to be a box office topper…

SYNOPSIS:
Set in the Deep South during the 1850s, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) is a German bounty hunter/former dentist who buys Django (Jamie Foxx) as a slave so that he can help Schultz identify bounties for him. After successfully helping the good doctor with his bounty hunting, Django is given his freedom papers and is recruited by Schultz to continue being his partner in the bounty hunting business…

Django hones his bounty hunting skills until Schultz thinks he is ready to go to Mississippi; in order to free his wife (Broomhilda). When they find her where abouts through slave auction records, they discover she is in the hands of monsieur Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio); a francophile who takes great pleasure in watching Mandingos fight to the death. Django and Schultz cleverly con Candie into selling Django back his Broomhilda. But something goes rotten in the state of Denmark and Django finds himself fighting for his life, his wife, and sweet bloody vengeance.

I agree…but it’s not one of those films…it actually looks like something good to watch and not feel degraded or disrespected

Tarantino is simply capitalizing off of the Trayvon case/anger/racial tension.

Negroes can be so stupid. This film isn’t glorifying slavery. And this movie was in production way before the Trayvon Martin situation (may he rest in peace though).

@THETRUTH You’ve made it clear that the “stupid negro” you speak of, happens to be yourself.

I am not sure what I think about this film. I wonder if Black actors will slam Jamie and Kerry for playing slaves like Viola Davis and Octavia were slammed for playing maids?
From what I understand, some of Hollywood was not in agreement with them playing slaves.

I have mixed feelings about this film. With that being said I do not think it is wrong or disrespectful or shameful for Black people to play slaves in a historical movie. It is the truth that we were put in those situations. I’ve been getting sick and tired of watching all of these historical old movies play out as if people of color do not exist. We do not need to ignore our past, we get enough of that already in history books, etc. What we need is to have a VARIETY of personalities and perspectives to represent us, let us know we were here and we are here and we will be here.

With THAT being said, I am worried that Jamie Fox will not be dignified enough for the role. I don’t think he is a bad actor but he is a comedian. I want this movie to be kickass and not in an action sitcom Rush Hour/Nothing to Lose/MIB/Friday/BigMomma’s House way. We get enoooouuuuggghhh of that. Point Blank If they do this movie about a slave:

DJANGO BETTER BE A JAMES BOND! I repeat DJANGO BETTER BE A JAMES BOND.

…With that “Django, the D is silent” line, Jamie Fox did not convince me. Maybe if Samuel L. Jackson was the main character.

not sure if Jaime Foxx has the “cool” that tarentino was looking for…he seemed to push too hard…i think Idris Elba would have been better. going to see it anyway because tarentino makes blacks look Great on his movies…wether they are slaves or drug dealers or flight attendants…they seem to possess a swagger thats unmatched

For far too long we have seen the silver screen been painted with images of Caucasian emotions, images, culture and art. We have become so used to it, that we feel that the colored mans image is unwanted, unfounded and baseless. We have far too long being fed a diet of “Master Racism” that we have not yet come to terms with our black image as a force to be recongised and loved. We have struggled to have our rightful place in history. Now it is being derailed by our fears and un-certainty. Let film go. Give it a chance to make its mark in history. No matter what we think or feel, slavery did happen. Everyone has, and is entitled to their interpretation of the movie. We are too concerned about scolding and who will blast who on the matter. We have for far too long been conditioned to scold and think about the punishments and scolding long before we commit to action. Progress is made on executing action despite the fears that we may have. IT IS THE DRIVE FOR CHANGE that should propell us. NOT THE WALK TOWARDS FEAR! Give the movie a chance to shine, not as an insult, but as a triumph.

I DONT CARE WHAT NO ONE SAYS I DONT AGREE WITH ANY ONE MAKING MONEY OFF OUR SLAVE HISTORY AS A ACTION/COMEDY. WHY DOES HOLLYWOOD ALWAYS MAKE MOVIES OF THAT PARTICULAR TIME PERIOD WITH US. WHY CANT THEY MAKE MOVIES OF BLACK PEOPLE BEFORE SLAVERY. THATS WHAT I WANNA KNOW.

I’ll probably go see this film, the plot is definitely interesting and it has an A cast; I think they’re just going about marketing it the wrong way. This trailer makes it look like it’s “a good ‘ole cotton pickin’ time” ….you know what I mean? It should be marketed as a serious, but smart movie but I know a majority of people (our people included) wouldn’t go to see the movie if it was.

Its our history and it cannot be told enough. Our young people are so far removed from our history, our ancestors, and who we are. This is what society wants. They want a generation that does not know who they are, where they come from and what it took for them to get there. High school drop outs at an all time high, young people can’t pass a drug test, therefore unemployable and prison running over with young people not old people. I say we need a reminder to bring it back to our rememberance where it all began. I am going to see the movie. I appreciate Jamie Foxx and Kerry Washington for stepping out and telling the story.

I feel like I already know what’s going to happen. White man uses Django to get what he wants, arrange for his wife to be kidnapped as endurance. Django does and believes whatever white man says, starts feeling himself and in the end realizes he was played by White man. I could be wrong tho…

Negroes need to get over slavery? That’s like getting over American history like the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, etc. We all need to get over our penchant for denying American history. Slavery is pivotal American history that affects all American culture. If movie lovers can go to see all the bloody and gory action films produced in this country, then they can go see this movie too. That a Black man in America would go through so much to find a Black woman that he loves, no matter what she has been through, is beautiful American history. We seem to have forgotten that slaves had to develop a peculiar strength that has allowed the rest of us to survive. This slave sister probably has no fake nails, flowing Indian hair extensions, over-priced wardrobe, or recreational…whatever! But she does have love and an awsome level of commitment from a Black man. I’m looking forward to seeeing the movie. Jim, the slave featured in Mark Twain’s American tales, is also walking across country to find his wife. There is no way to talk American history without talking slave history. Many Black folks whom migrated to the northern states really seemed to believe they found a “Promised Land.” Many of their children can’t trace themselves back to Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc. They hate the South and southern culture, which is ridiculous since there is so much to be proud of in the knowledge of slave history, and in the contributions the Africans made to American society. I’m proud of the laborers and maids from whom I decend. They at least had skills beyond compare. The way some American children behave these days, both Black and White, I sometimes wish the approach to child-rearing “The Help” employed at home and abroad had become a national craze instead of anything Dr. Spock had to offer. Now most of us can’t boil water let alone prepare food for more than a few. We call each other “niggers” as a term of endearment and then can’t handle the history from which the word was engendered. What kind of sh*%# is that?

I think Jammie Foxx, Leonardo and the rest of the crew r great actors I think people look to hard in things that r small, Newtown Conn is major let our goverment get busy on that situation protecting our children let the world send in some solutions on that, Let the government let the world come up with a solution r give some ideas so there will be no more Wars for no reason….Let society and the nation come to gather to stop killings where were losing are family members….So this is what im saying there will be movies there will be actors there have been since Pearl Bailey to Fred Astaire acting will go on…..I commend all movies good and bad because through all the positive movies through all the negative movies it shows us where we can improve. From Bruce Lee, to Jet Li to to Bing Crosby to Mahalia in a Immitation of Life,,,I love Theatre. Remember these actors and actresses singers, Rappers, Country singers, Rock stars there only humans with an awesome gift that God has given them….Go see DJANGO and just enjoy the brilliant mind that took some words and farmed it to a script then into a MOVIE>>>>>>
