I like Denzel.. but lately his movies are like wash, rinse, repeat. Wasn’t he just in a movie with a runaway train that he had to save? Come on Denzel, I’m ready for something else buddy.

@Eric… Actually I was referring to Unstoppable (the one about the runaway train) which was the last movie he was in before Safe House. They keep showing it on Showtime or whatever movie channel.

All I’m saying is his movies are repetitive. He is always playing a cop, military officer, or a blue collar worker who must save the day with the exception of Malcolm X & Preacher’s Wife. I am just ready for him to take on a different kind of role. The last movies I actually liked him besides Training Day were Man on Fire, American Gangster and Inside Man. Other than that, he hasn’t really done anything that has been too riveting. Safe House was a wash, rinse of Bourne Identity. I’d like to see Denzel do some independent films to diversify his catalog.

      @ JUSSAYING

Denzel plays roles according to the character archetype that has been given to him by Hollywood. That is why many of his roles may seem “repetitive”. This has always been modus operandi in Hollywood and will continue to be so. For years, Pacino and De Niro played mafioso or characters who were not screwed in too tight. Denzel does also perform in many Shakespearean plays. He was in Julius Caesar about 6 or 7 years ago, and he had a play called “Fences” on Broadway about 2 years ago.

@JUSSAYING Negro sit your a– down! There is Denzel and then there is everyone else. He is a class above a wide variety of actors who play anything just for a paycheck. His roles have been far more versatile than the Tyler Perry’s, Morris Chestnuts, and Tyrese’s of our day. I support his work (especially considering that as he gets older the roles that he is allotted to play may be more limited). Have ——> _/ _/ _/ (maybe even on an airplane)!

@Judah, I’m aware that Hollywood typecasts but at this point in his career he has enough credentials where he can be more selective about the roles he takes on. Don Cheadle is a prime example of someone who has taken on a diverse amount of roles. (Let us not forget him as Icebox on Fresh Prince. From there he’s been a slave, an undercover agent, a psyhologist, War Machine, and finally Marty on his show time series in which he plays the lead on a team of management consultants). While I appreciate Denzel’s efforts in Broadway — Fences being one of my favorite plays, though I prefer James Earl Jones as main character Troy — the topic here is his movie roles which as I said earlier, I find repetitive.

I have to disagree. When you actually thing about it, Denzel’s played a myriad of different personalities and roles outside of the cop, blue collar worker, or military officer.
The Great Debaters, Antwone Fisher, Remember the Titans, John Q, He Got Game, Training Day, American Gangster, The Pelican Brief, Much Ado About Nothing, Mo’Better Blues, The Book of Eli, Safe House, all movies where he wasn’t a cop, blue collar worker, or military officer.

I wasn’t referring to that. Before Safe House it was Runaway Train (or whatever it was called) that had Rosario Dawson in it. I didn’t say his LAST film.

Denzel is the last true Hollywood start in acting that we actually have. He is a real artist, he’s not a celebrity gushing for publicity or media attentin. The man is an incredible actor and has sustained popularity because he does his job and that’s it. He doesn’t reveal his personal life which is something that stars of today should learn. He’s amazing…heart Denzel!!
