Hip hop has become more commercial and less about the art. So, I’m leaning towards, it degrades society

Degrades it. Back in the day it was awesome, it stood for something; now for the the love of money has made it a joke. KRS One will continue to push the agenda because that is how he gets paid; to brain wash.

Um that’s a no-brainer. DEGRADES! Now old school hip-hop was way better than this crap now.

But why is this always a debate??

Is Rock and Pop enhancing society?? NOT! Gimme a break. Stop always attacking things that blacks do.

They should re-phrase it to “Do Blacks enhance society?” Clearly that’s what this is all about.

    No the media degrades society!!!
There are hip hop artist who are positive educated and rap towards peace just as there are singers. To say hip hop degrades society is to say all music does. Stop letting the media feed you ignorance. Dont buy records with negative messages and support artist who uplift and are creative.

Let’s just generalize hip hop as a whole. There’s a difference between gangsta and hip hop. But gangsta, or rather gangster, has been around for years, before hip hop. I think what a lot hip hop does his bring awareness to reality. Hip hop is not all about cars, money, bitches, drugs. I think if you look at other forms of music, you’ll find that. If you look at movies and tv shows you’ll find it there. So what’s the big deal why do we blame hip hop alone, oh wait… It’s generalized as a “black” thing. Let’s face it, we can blame these so called well educated people in politics and media for giving these connotation to hip hop. But a person who actually cares about the truth will not remain ignorant, but will do their own research and see how powerful this culture is to all races around the world. Please stop generalizing this music from what the corporations put out on tv and radio, there is so much more that has substance and messages that have try to bring awareness to its listeners. Those who know get it, those dont know, probably won’t ever understand.

There are many types of hip hop and some of it is degrading. I think we all know this. A year or two ago I would have been ready to debate; but now…it has been this way for so long I have moved on and developed a response, instead of steady talking about it. My response is not to listen to what I do not like. Therefore I usually do not tune into the radio. I will create my own station on Pandora. When an ignorant song comes on, I have the option to THUMBS IT DOWN.

I also recognize that hip hop, like any real music or art form is a REFLECTION of who we are. We can tell people that hate women to shut up; we can tell people that hate their own race to shut up; we can tell people that put money over God’s creations to shut up, but that won’t change that there are people out there like that. Of course, it would help for those people to not have a speaking platform, but at the end of the day are the people who are really into ignorant minded music even going to watch a news commentary on the state of society? Maybe they will and this debate will be worth something. I am just at a time in my life where I know what I can do about bullshit music; don’t buy it. Hopefully that is enough.
