I have really nothing to say about the topic. I wanted to address the issue that is this blog. It seems like it’s not as popular as it was a few years ago. Why?? well BC most of the topics are stuff we can see anywhere. Do you know how many articles that there are about Beyonce and this letter. Or what’s the point of the Coupled up posts? There just pap pics. In order to increase viewership you have to bring something more to the table. We can view most of these stories that you post about just about anywhere BE MORE CREATIVE. For example, The U.S. Gymnastics team has 2 African Americans 1 Boy and 1 Girl ( There’s also a girl alternate). They aren’t no slackers they are the top notch of their teams. I’m aware that you did a post about it, but it was so bland. Spruce it up, how many African American’s are recognized for Gymnastics. You could’ve included a video of them or named some gyms for kids that are interested or say that you will follow them in the olympic games. Where’s the casting news for Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave or Lee Daniel’s The “Butler”??? Those casts are INSANE full of talented underrated actors and actresses. You could do a comparison which one are you more excited to see and why. Have audience participation. No offense just some constructive criticism.

I’m working on getting my Master’s in Risk Management. I’m a former Fulbright Nominee. @ Carter The point I was trying to make by using Maya and Bill as examples is those people in that generation understand the importance of black public officials holding public offices. They will always give them the highest respect possible because they know respect as a black official is not promise. And they will give them the highest quality of anything presented to them in their honor, whether it be a short form, heartfelt letter or a long poetic piece. And for Beyonce and/or fans to claim that she is such a leader, shouldn’t she be held at the same higher standard as well? Maybe you could have given her a pass for a few occasions, but it has been an on going occurence for far to long. Beyonce wrote the letter (albeit, simple) to Michelle on her own accord. This is someone that she has engaged with and admires. Michelle Obama may not be doing that much more than other First Ladies in the past, but she is a black woman juggling marriage, family and work…”under a microscope”….does that sound familiar?
It’s Beyonce’s life too…and Michelle does it with elegance and warmth…much more that Beyonce does (apparently she comes across “cold” and “fake”; Michelle? Not so much). She is a black woman that young black children can look up to…a career woman with a successful marriage and children. Still appears strong…a quality that we like to say is a positive of black women.
The letter isn’t meant to be an essay or a article…it definitely wasn’t intended to be part of the Obama campaign. As simple as it is, the thesis is clear. She’s thinks Michelle is a role model. It was Obama’s campaign team who saw the potential in that for campaigning….creating positive feelings around not only the president but his wife as well. Simple.
It’s not like there are egregious grammar issues. It’s just a simple letter that has been rehashed as a tool for the campaign. Why is Beyonce the target…she didn’t make the video herself, she was asked to do it. Why not get at OBAMA for promoting a video that has nothing to do with policy? I’m a Canadian and I’m amazed and the misguided attacks (or lack thereof) when it comes to Obama.
Where’s the outrage for the mockery of black women on Love & Hip Hop and those other shows (none of which I have EVER watched save The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and only for a couple seasons)? THAT is the REAL example of uneducated based on what I hear/see in the media.

Black people are so quick to criticize one another; it’s sickening. Beyonce does not deserve all of the criticism she has received for this letter, or the most recent delivery of it. Even if she and Jay-Z are financial contributors to the Obama campaign, Bey was well within her rights to express her admiration to the First Lady. More often than not, the only time most people write a letter is to complain about something or someone. And guess what else…? Most of the people sitting around complaining and finding fault in everything are the very people not doing a damn thing. So, shut up. I get so sick of the constant negativity spread among the Black community.
People are quick to hate her because she is doing what they can’t do or have failed to do. She has money. I already said it. People are jealous because she is richer than most folks.
