There’s a couple of reasons why I don’t like this picture. 1. Body Language – Janet looks supported, Teyana looks restricted.
2. Hands – Janet’s hands are closed, showing control, Teyana has one open, showing an uneasy element.
I usually am up for seeing naked ladies any day of the week, but when someone is clearly doing things for the wrong reasons, it shows. She’s talented and should probably stay closer to what she loves doing.

I’ll have to disagree with you. Mixtapes are “free” for the most part. But for true “artist” just as much energy goes into that as well. IMO it is defined a mixtape more so how it is marketed if you will, not produced or created. Take a listen to said mixtape and you will have the album you are supposedly looking for. Good material on that project. #LOVE!

If people are truly interested in your “art”, you don’t have to go from label to label for years, hoping to affiliate yourself with established performers. Teyana Taylor could be Janet Jackson’s daughter. A daughter learns from her mother. In the programming that has been implanted in older black women, Janet Jackson is an “icon”, so she is therefore above reproach. When she did that cover back in 1993, she was viewed as a “trailblazer”. They needed a black version of Madonna to move the black female towards viewing wh0redom as liberation. Had Teyana Taylor taken it a step further on this cover and had this dude’s hands over her vag!na, I wonder if she would be viewed as a “trailblazer” instead of a mimic.
What’s interesting about this is that Foxy Brown a dark skin woman did the cover of vogue holding her own body and it was viewed very badly. Her parents were extremely disappointed in her and she said it was the first time in her career she felt like a failure to her family. Outside of that it still wasn’t viewed with high regard in the African American community mainly because of the complexities of skin. Foxy Brown was probably more liberated on that cover than anything Janet Jackson has ever done. Janet has a man holding her body. Therefore, she still is “under male objectivity,” or some feminist bullshit like that. Foxy Brown Vibe cover she was holding her own and it was viewed in the complete opposite way. I like the softness of Janet’s 1993 photo. I think its the black and white and her clean face that gives Janet’s photo a softer look. The way the hands are cupping Teyana’s breast also add to the hard look in my opinion. I think if you are going to re-create something, it should be done the same or better than the original.
