Majority of African Americans and the “Black,” family were in a much better position in early 1950-60′s. Before, we were granted access to these entitlement programs. They required for women to be single. Majority of the women took the hand-out and it called for the man to leave the home from time to time because, the government had arrangements where people would come to see if “men,” were living with you – to take you off of the entitlement package. This only gave further incentive to the black woman that she didn’t need her man. And this gave more incentive for the black man to walk away from his obligations.

If the average black female was informed that most of the problems in the “black community” could be rectified if they re-assumed their original role in the home, as opposed to the confusion that has been caused by their “empowerment”, they would STILL EN MASSE CHOOSE “EMPOWERMENT”. The hands of the few are pretty smart for this system though. Because, my ass is out here struggling with student loan debt. Contemplating graduate school or a postbac. These losers are taking nearly .40 of my check in taxes and other random miscellaneous shit. Which leaves me with pocket change. The money they take out of my check goes to someone who is either on social security, baby mother, ill/ disabled etc. Those people are given access with that money to go shop at the same stores I shop at i.e. Whole Foods, Walgreens, Staples etc. All of this money goes right back in the hands of the few. People don’t even see the strategy. You got 60 percent working and the other 38 percent aren’t doing much but the 58 percent are providing for themselves and the other 38 percent – 4 percent are for the people who OWN, control and govern over resources.

@WakeUp – It certainly is a learned behavior. But, during segregation prior before reconstruction/integration. The black family was in a much better state than it currently is now. There is documented evidence that African Americans in America as a whole did much better when we were a united community where we had to rely on each other. I agree with pretty much everything you all said. I believe the feminist movement has done more hurt than harm insomuch as they have effectly taken the male out of the equation, allowing some women to think that they don’t need a male presence in their lives. I’ve never said nations will be saved. It will be the people who believe that Jesus Christ is Lord over the earth and coming back again, through the Spirit descending from heaven coming to people not it flesh and blood. And why would other nations with Adam and Eve go over my head? I’ve always believed that God made more men and women before Adam and Eve. Everyone has the same opportunity? That couldn’t be farther from the truth. The variations of schooling across the US exemplifies ONE reason why we do not have equal opportunities. For example, compare grade schools/Junior Highs/High Schools up North, like Massachusetts, to schools down South, like Alabama. Those kids in the south are literally lite-years behind the kids in the north. It’s not their fault though, most of the schools in black neighborhoods are just horrible. So what are their chances getting into some of the greatest colleges when they have to compete with people who naturally had better schooling? What are their chances getting similar scholarships? What are their chances getting jobs when they’re not as experienced or qualified? Some of these things, people cannot help. College is a privilege, not everyone is going to be able to go. This is why Affirmative Action was created – because it is a fact that we all do not have equal opportunities. Being black, you already do not have equal opportunities, by default. It will be harder for you.

I will say, though, that there are a lot of people that take advantage of the government and in reality are lazy drunkards, I personally know of people like that. They are fully capable of working and making something of themselves but they don’t take advantage of their resources. It’s sad but it’s real. But at the same time, there are the genuine folks who truly just need help.

I’ve been working since I was 14 and if I have or find a way to take advantage of the government it’s being done. I can’t believe people still believe in this govenment.

While I agree that the quality of school systems varies widely, it’s ultimately up to people to care enough before changes can happen. That includes children caring enough about their education to take school seriously; parents caring enough about their children’s future to stay actively involved in their education; working-age adults caring enough about themselves and their families to keep a good work ethic; and the community members in general caring enough to develop and/or maintain a culture that values respect and achievement, instead of disrespect, crime and apathy. When this happens, businesses see the community as an asset, the employment rate rises, and the tax base increases, which means better schools, among other benefits. And the great thing is this all costs nothing except effort and change in attitude.

My comments are geared toward inner cities, which is the environment I grew up in. Not sure about other types communities, like rural areas, or areas with other significant issues to deal with.

I do somewhat agree with you Naomi but then again, I feel as though if people see better opportunities then why not ask questions and become knowledgeable about how to get to that point to where you want to be in life…Maybe I am too optimistic but I am a firm believer in “You can do whatever you put your mind to”….I still think that everyone does have the same opportunity, those children down south may not have the same school systems as the people up north or those who are privelaged, however they do have access to the resources to make themselves just as knowledgeable….with the internet anything is possible….I network and talk to people in France and they let me know about their culture, art, literature etc. so why cant a person from down south just get on the net and chat with someone from up north to know where they are at education wise, or see what type of text books they are using and buy them on amazon.com and take the time out to educate themselves if they want to get ahead in life. people who make excuses get nowhere, sometimes you just have to go above & beyond for yourself b/c no one else is going to!…those teachers down south probably do their jobs & that is it, they probably dont go the extra miles for those students even though they know that the students are being deprived of an education, but once again you cant really blame the teachers b/c the students should take initiative in their own education as well.. more specifically high school students. I guess my whole point is that if someone doesnt feel that they are capable to be the best then they wont, maybe I am a little too optimistic when it comes to certain things but I believe excuses and lack of knowledge about what we have access to on this earth is one of black people’s downfall

Sometimes, it’s about accountability. South, North, West and East in the U.S.A our communities are under massive warfare. BUT, the parents aren’t doing what they should do and that is rear the child. The public school system is in shambles right? There is a documentary titled “Ivy Dreams,” and you have several Asian American students that families break their necks to get there and send them to public school. The difference is that their mothers and fathers are hard as nails on them about their education. One of the young ladies father made her become involved in school activities, private piano lessons, and 2 hours of studying and homework – and on the weekend when she was out of class he made her spend both Saturday and Sunday preparing for the SAT/ACT he wanted her to have a perfect score. There is one clip that one young lady said her families entire future depended on her SAT/ACT scores – She got into YALE and she was pre-med. I am sure by now she is in med school praying she matches into a specialty to get that money. We are not raised to behave in such a way. The resources while far few and in between. There is massive of ways to hustle up some opportunity for yourself.

I mentioned a long time ago on this website that our people ruled Europe, Asia Minor, Russia, and North Africa during what the white man calls the “medieval” or “Byzantine” Empire.
