I think the video was boring but that is not all his fault. The song itself is subpar (even though it has a “good” message).
@Neil-I understand what you are saying. While many people can sing, you need to get the right vocal coach that will show them what ranges they can really hit and stay at. That too, will make sure their voices are preserved. I did notice that Mariah’s voice is NOT what it was, green tea and resting her vocal cords will help keep her in the game longer.

I gotta say that I was also nervous when I heard that Nick was directing the video, but I think its pretty good. HOWEVER, If I know Mariah as good as I feel like I know her (lol) I know shes gonna come with a BANGER right before the album is about to drop. I feel like shes just making some noise right now to let the ppl know shes about to take over, she always does.

We all wish this would happen, but Mariah is experiencing the vocal decline that naturally comes with age, and vocal damage as a result of over-singing and poor vocal preservation technique. She was a phenomenal vocalists, but what the industry need to understand is that vocal cords arent guitars and pianos…they’re body parts..very fragile ones, in fact. People werent made to be singing at the top of their lungs 150-200 nights a year. Rest is needed…look what happened to Adele (smoking accelerated this of course). Mariah just isnt able to do it anymore. Some singers such as Patti LaBelle have been lucky/blessed to have experienced little decline…but for the most part, most singers experience it. From Whitney, to Alicia Keys (Compare her 2001 voice to her voice now), Aretha…etc. (Yes, I’ve taken drug-use into account)

To the stans: “poor vocal preservation technique” isnt synonimous to “she cant sing”…it simply means that there are techniques that promote vocal health, and she doesnt know/apply them. Whitney was in the same boat…so was Amy Winehouse; yes, they were taking drugs, which aggravated things, but the constant belting, slamming vocal cords together, took their toll.

This sucks so bad and not only sucking bad. This is basic. Mariah Carey was better when she was being handled by Tommy Mottola. At least, then she had great ballads and some fusion of pop/hip-hop. This is just sad.
Right. Tommy Mottola was her “Clive Davis”…same thing happened when Whitney took a little more creative control; the quality of her music went down. They both went from torch songs and power ballads, to pseudo hip-hop/r&b tracks. Celine Dion, on the other hand, stuck to what made her who she is in the music, and look where she’s at.
I love the message and Mariah’s voice, that is the ONLY reason I watched this video; BUT I think the video should have went in another direction. I get what the video was depicting, I just thought with life as it is, a different scenerio should’ve been showed; from an every day experience. Especially with the economy being how it is, with unemployment; maybe showing people still being “Triumphant” after being laid off. Never giving up after being knocked down by life and it finally paying off. I’m tired of her videos being all about her being “golden” and showing off her not all that figure, we get it; and see you. Go a little deeper than visual appearances. I am also tired of rappers such as Rick Ross’s high ass being all in the videos. These are the images being showed to our youth and weak minded individuals, who think getting high and spending all your damn money on clothes and jewelry is all good. I hope people pay attention to MANY of our black celebrities who have had money but are now broke because they didn’t spend their money wisely. They are not always broke because someone else mismanaged their money; MOST of the time there is no one to blame but themselves.

Nah Mariah didn’t lose it. She can still sing the same she just dumbed down her voice for this song. I can guarantee she’s singing on her new album. Unfortunately, Mariah has regressed into being a one-dimensional artist again. All she did was go from safe to sexy, from the little black dress to the little gold dress, from no movement to the same hair flipping had gestures. Regardless of her image, what always made her stand out was her singing and song quality. Without that, she will just fade into the background. We already have enough singers who are younger who are providing mediocrity. Step it up or be replaced by others with sub-par talent.

i cant tell whose song it is mariah looks and sounds as if shes just featured in the song to me….i hate when singers do this when they need a comback or press for their single the jump on the dicks of rappers or producers who have the most radio/music exsposure at that time to bring attention and hype…love MC and the message of the song but wish she had more shine in it
