I think Aaliyah & certainly TLC might’ve been the ones who started the Tomboy look. It’s still shouldn’t be touted as an accomplishment-they’re just clothes.
I do not think Teyana Taylor is saying she created a style or genre. I think Teyana is saying these women were all glam goddess of the industry and they took her style she was using. It’s kind of like being the first on the block with the new latest of whatever and everyone thinks its lame. But, then a couple months later everyone has that same item and think it’s cool, chic or ‘in.’ Teyana has always been tom-boyish. That’s been her style since day one. So, it probably kills her to see someone like Rihanna or Rita Ora who both are MANUFACTURED CREATIONS of the industry. Rihanna has had more styles and image switch ups because she is a high caliber puppet; meant for develop and design. Same with Rita Ora. Kelis has been one of the most cutting edge females in our community and her style is consistently bitten off of. If you look at the girls hair, clothes, and even music she’s always a head of the curve. She did an interview which lead me to believe Kelis actually might be in the know on a whole other tip.
