Eww what’s up with Lauryn Hill these days. She looks like Lamp Chop in that photo. How do you go to jail for a tax evasion when you made so much money?? Who’s gonna take care of all her children now? SMH this is sad.

Cot d@mn……Lauryn Hill must be on some sort of drugs. She shouldn’t look that bad. I don’t believe she is even 40 years old yet. She looks like Willis from “Different Strokes”. Jesse Jackson Jr. is not the only person in those pictures dealing with multiple personality disorder. If I be a betting man, all four of them are dealing with that dem0n. Beyonce certainly is (Sasha Fierce), and so is Lauryn Hill a.k.a. Willis from Diiferent Strokes a.k.a. Buckwheat a.k.a. Nipsey Russell lmao. That mugshot is too funny. She might win some but she just lost this one lol….

Would you all shut up with your jokes on Lauren’s looks. I see a beautiful black woman in an unfortunate circumstance. If she had 3 feet of weave hanging off her head, some cleavage bursting out and makeup like a clown, then you’d probably approve.

        Hypocritical perv.

That was not Harry Belofonte place to make those sort of remarks. What ever contributions you make is your business. No one has the right to dictate where you should make a difference. The main purpose is to make a difference wherever you can. This is a huge world full of different problems. Its not Beyonce’s duty to be captain save a h0e. There’s room for people with bi-polarism in prison Jesse.

I understand the response from Beyonce’s team. She has been very giving of her money and time. People have to understand that charity and social responsibility are not the same thing. She doesn’t have to be charitable or accountable, but them defending her with how much money she’s spent is them missing the point.

Artists today have a hugggge impact on people everywhere because of their reach. Tv, print, blogs, twitter, meet and greets, etc. Celebs are now more accessible than ever but most do nothing with that “power”. You have 20 millions eyes and ears on you and hat are you doing.

The 60s, 70s, etc entertainers didn’t just give out checks. Even modern artists like Michael Jackson who gave the most (but never said it), would not just be at hospitals like I know Beyonce and Bieber are but he was using his award speeches and music lyrics to help his fans.

Beyonce has the worst disconnect because of how her most vocal fans are. The fact that her fans would mock the murder of Jennifer Hudson’s family to say Beyonce is better, or tweet around pics of a skeleton and call it Aaliyah because Aaliyah fans said she would be on top is disgusting. The dragging and arrogance they put out “on her behalf” is not suppressed by “Diva” or self-pleasing tunes like “I Was Here”. It just makes her a queen, a god to them even more… if her songs or speeches or image gave out humbleness or kindness she wouldn’t have to make tumblr posts defending her friend Dream Hampton’s daughter. She’s socially irresponsible but giving….like a parent who sends their child money while they’re in a different country on business….

Finally…someone who understands the point HB was trying to make. Bottom line – celeb have a lot of power. We’re on this blog commenting 24/7 about the most irrevelant stuff. What if Bey really used her influence and started a movement, conversations among our youth about healthy self image, exercise, and good nutrition, speaking out against unhealthy school lunches, etc. 95% of the time instead of just one video support the First Lady’s initiative? Would be major!

Maybe she’s too young to comprehend her power for something other tab self promotion. Nut that Jay should know better.

And who gives to charity, then talk about it? Not a good look. I’d fire people in my camp for doing that.

I’m sure they didn’t put that out without her knowledge and approval. I do agree that she should not have put that out, if she gives; that is her business and the organizations she gives to.

Damn, Lauryn looking like a south african refugee oh la,la,la is right. Why ? I mean why buy expensive shoes and layers upon layers,….upon layers, of expensive clothes for performances, and then reject other conventional forms of vanity like make up, or eyebrow waxing ? what’s the difference ?

South African refugee??? Get your facts straight we are not a country of refugees. We might house refugees from other african countries but we are anything but that. Take a history lesson or google shit before opening you uneducated trap.

You folks must understand celebs have to be very careful with theirs words because some of the products they promote might not be in the beat interest of good health ( i.e Coca Cola soda ). So before Beyounce` or any Celeb speak out for or against something, they have ensure that they are not critizing the product/s they promote. Look at Ebony magazine they have been running ads for Kool cigarettes for years dispate the fact that this habit has been one of the main killers of black woman annually.

I think Belafonte’s point was that as famous as Beyonce and Jay are, truth be told, she’s not really OUT there in the trenches like some celebrities are. The list that her publicist gave were performing in benefits and donating money, anyone with money and/or who is a performer can do that. I think it was less of him trying to read and more like look, you have a responsibility, and if you really want to be a humantarian, then show us and not by doing this mediocre stuff.

Of course she waited until AFTER a UN visit to respond. This isnt so much about Beyonce but about new school artists. Beyonce is a shining example. Everything she does feels contrived…even the so-called charity. HB seems like a good old school dude. Maybe she should listen instead of defend.

Bey is far from new. Her fans want her to be new school and act like they tend to forget she started off with Destiny Child. Beyonce wants to be seen as a humanitarian but has a long record of being inactive. Bottom line is she’s an opportunist.

      • Robert

@Eric – Destiny’s Child came out in 1997. They were popular, they were not ground breaking. She is definitely new school. Plus, she’s 30 years old (that’s what she claims *wink*). How can someone who professes to be 30 be “old school”? Opportunist is a nice way of saying selfish or self-centered. Seeing a personal “opportunity” in a chartible event. WOW…how sad.

I am still with Harry Belafonte on this. We need to learn from elders, not criticize them.

@Rob your entire comment is contradicting. You proved my point. DC came out in the 90′s. Regardless of how old Bey is today, fact remains she started young in the group and by the entertainment biz standards Bey is considered OLD SCHOOL. Her career didn’t start when she went solo. Bey has been around for 15 yrs. Destiny Child had major success as a group and her reachinjg groundbreaking status is truly yet to be seen. This is one of the big problems with her fans, they continue to ignor the truth about her and insist on putting her an imaginary pedestal

      • eric

Old School is not determined by a current age. Some artist don’t start out until damn near 30 yrs of age….look at Nicki Minaj, she is knocking on 30 and clearly she is new school. Get your knowledge up. We are talking about music industry standards not personal age. Brandy and Monica are considered old school as well….

      • Robert

@Eric – you’re an idiot. Beyonce is NOT old school. Let’s discuss music industry standards. Beyonce came out in the era of $500,000 videos. In 1997 Destiny’s Child had a song but they were barely relevant. The Spice Girls were the hottest chicks in the world (unfortunately). You cannot compare Harry Belafonte’s old school status to Beyonce’s 15 years of which 10 is moderately relevant. Beyonce has peaked so it beehoves her (and her fans, etc) to describe herself as “old school” or “been in the game” because they want her labeled legendary. Legend is something that creates itself, an artist and passage of time can’t do that.

You sir are a RETARD and I refuse to debate with someone who has NO clue or can barely remember the 90′s. What IDIOT would compare Belafonte’s career span with Beyonce? Its apples and oranges. Whose fault is it that DC/Beyonce were barely relevant in the 90′s, as you have claimed. Thats besides the point. She has been around for 15 yrs. You act like its a standard to be around in the industry for 20+ yrs. Its not. Destiny Child released 2 album while I was in high school in the late 90′s (Destiny’s Child and The Writings on The Wall) both with successful singles. She and Kelly are not new school. The newest school member was Michelle in 2001 (Survivor album) and she is older than all of them. A lot of artist in the 90′s barely had careers that lasted that decade, let alone artist from the early 2000′s who aren’t even around now. Point proven, beyonce is OLD SCHOOL

      • eric

Idiot determining Old School status based off of hits or how “hot” they were?! That is clearly not correct. Beyonce’s time started the moment she signed that record contract, recorded and released the album. When DC songs began to chart in the 90′s, they were official. Longevity does not equal Legendary. Beyonce has a lot more work to do before she is even thought of as legendary. You gotta do more that shake your ass half naked in a leotard.

This entire entry is about Belafonte’s comments and Beyonce’s response. The comparision of the two careers and defining old is new school is accurate and that’s what I was doing. Beyonce is certainly new school compared to Belafonte and still a new school artist in general. No point has been proven. Beyonce will not appear on anyone’s old school list except yours.

To be honest, not even Toni Braxton, and Mariah Carey, who came out in the early 1990s are considered “old school”…hell, not even Whitney Houston. The term “old school” is generally reserved for those who actually had to WORK for their status, respect, money, and accolades….not those who came out after 1995, by which time all you had to do is rub your privates across a stage floor to be considered a legend. Beyonce is NOT “old school”. You cant call Aretha Franklin old school, then turn around and call Beyonce Old school too. Smh at 90′s babies.

Beyonce and Jay Z does give. They are doing exactly what was planned for them to do. Control the masses with mediocre music (more Beyonce than Jay) and beauty (more Beyonce than Jay). Her fans go hard for her for that reason alone. They are not here to build up hope for the youth or anyone else. What they are giving is way bigger than what people think.

They aren't saving souls, they are selling them for cheap

      lol @ Michelle’s comment
”that she doesn’t do enough to help the world with her star power”- from the article
Harry was speaking of the fact that she doesn’t do enough for her own people (black people) with all of the talent, fame, money and glory that she has been given. Her image and everything she stands for should speak for itself, so she and her reps wouldn’t feel the need to broadcast her ”humanitarian” work. These black artist don’t care about their people, they only care about the money and fame.

I wish people would stop talking about Lauryn’s Mugshot we all know this is the white man trying to get her to break and bow down. Be strong Ms. Hill and never bow down in Babylon

”Just as Christ was a superstar, you stupid star
They’ll hail you then they’ll nail you, no matter who you are
They’ll make you now then take you down
And make you face it, if you slit the bag open
and put your pinky in it, then taste it” -”Superstar” By Lauryn Hill

GOD bless Lauryn Hill! She has been through hell and it shows. But I know one thing! Beyonce couldn’t sing, or act like her on her best day!!! PERIOD!! Her skills are ridiculous! Beyonce wouldn’t know what to do with a real R&B song! She would jack it up trying to sound soulful with a teenage pop singers voice! R&B has been dead for a few years now and its not coming back anytime soon. So sad….
