Check out the new single “Girl on Fire” from Alicia Keys. The title track from her upcoming 5th studio release features rapper Nicki Minaj. Not sure how I feel about this song, a lot of Alicia’s songs sound the same to me. What do you think of the track?

I like the song as a demo for someone else. I think Alicia has always been very limited very vocally (she can only carry a tune) but if a better singer sang the song it would be hotter.

The photograph is emitting a lot of masculine energy (which is expected to a degree when a black female is involved, but this is excessive). I hated NO ONE – she yelled through the entire track and people called it singing
Whispering and talking and yelling on tracks will only get you so far maybe a little farther when you are Alicia, but this song is whack and trust when that album drops it will be a bunch of songs with that high pitched yelling not singing

I hear “Empire State of Mind” in the chorus. The vocal arrangement just sounds too familiar. I’m still a fan though.
I like it, I don’t think Nicki’s rap was necessary, and I do agree that all the chords and vocals sound like her other works. I’m sure it will do good.
Nicki Minaj confessed a lot in both versus. Nicki in the first verse saying that “her,” is attempting to get in bed with her, gun with her and even talk her to the edge to jump with her? Who is “her?” We clearly know that the devil can take more than one shape, sex etc. Alicia Keys verse bridges the fact that this woman is crossing over leaving her ‘sol’ behind. Sol in reference to the sun. The video might have some serious sun-worship in it – and fire obvsly. Alicia Key’s mentioned that she’s a lonely girl in a lonely world that has fire in her eyes. Nicki Minaj immediately comes in mentioning GOD. “If you hear god, make the fire disappear god!” – It’s almost as if she mocked him but then says, “Do you fear god?” Nicki Minaj fears god but its hard to say if she believe she’s a god status yet. I do know Alicia Keys is and has become a larger than life entity in her own right.
- Also, the buzz cut. Alicia Key’s cut off her luscious locks to have a buzz cut and the cover kind of reminds of something Grace Jones would’ve done. Alicia Keys is playing with androgynous appeal. It wouldn’t shock me if in one shoot she has on a suit black, white or red and plays with masculine energy. Because, that’s exactly what she’s going to do with this project. Alicia Keys in a way covered all of her bases. She got married, had a baby and now she’s playing with her public experimentation. The conversations about her sexuality have always been called in question. But, now that she’s deemed a home wrecker, married, and with child people won’t think much about the buzz cut or the possible agenda she’s packaging.
Brotha look at how thick her neck and traps are in this photo. I honestly do not believe that is her body. I believe they super-imposed her face over a photo of a white male model. They do it in entertainment all the time to convey a subliminal message. Nicki Minaj recently got busted for a photo in which her face was super-imposed over a previous photo of Beyonce.

This song is fire! If you’re not feeling it…thats cool too. I’m not sure what you’re looking for and I’m sure that I’m tired of people wanting the same old shit. An artist is just that. An artist….so in order to be a artist…allow them to change it up, make new sounds, give new looks, have features on their records…all that shit. The fresh look and sound Alicia is rocking makes perfect sense to me. It shows growth. An a female like alicia and her mixed race…her hair will be back at length if she wanted it to be before the album drops. Get it!

I was already disapointed with the featuring, first because Alicia Keys doeesn’t a featuring, second, because of who she picked. Nicki Minaj helped ruining the song. The beat is too much like “new day” : loud, monotonous, it sounds like Swizz Beats signature.
