UPDATE..

September 18th, 2012

Hello Everyone,

First off, I want to apologize to our loyal readers for the lack of posts this past week. Right now, Concrete Loop is going through some growing pains and within the next few months you will be seeing some major changes to the site and staff. I read a lot of your comments and yes we have fallen off and yes it hasn’t been the same as it once was. However, I still believe in my brand and will continue to grow it until I feel I can’t do it anymore. As the owner of this company, I reserve the right to cease posting until I feel certain things are ironed out.

Thank you for the emails and messages and even for the negative critiques. They are all helping in this next phase of Concrete Loop. We do appreciate our supporters and your patience during this turbulent time.

With that said, I would like to leave the comment area open for suggestions and ideas on what you would like to see from Concrete Loop in the upcoming months. Fire away..

Hi Angel. I’ve been reading this since you started in 2005. I bought your book and even follow your personal blog. However, I can tell your heart hasn’t been in it for awhile now. CL is a positive force for black entertainment blogging with an appeal to it’s readers. Please don’t let it die. Keep your head up sis!

Wow REAL SUPPORTER that’s a powerful and nice comment..a little sad considering you picked that up :(

      Angel ideas:
      - Weekly Blog Talk Radio
      - Weekly/monthly Spreecasts sessions w/ a celeb
      - Add the Facebook social plugin for more interaction on your site
      - Take ConcreteLoop to the Street and get NOW topic interviews/questions from fashionistas of NYC and NC
      - Start partnering with organizations of your readership like: yp groups, political groups etc…

      - Ok that’s a enough free advice…lol

      Good Luck Loverlie.

Dani, you seem to have a lot of bright ideas, but you do know this isn’t TMZ. Those ideas require a lot of time along with a bigger staff… which means a stretch on the budget. You do know this is her side job and not her bread winner. Anyway, the only idea I would suggest is to post more! The site is fine where it’s at in terms of content. Overdoing it with a bunch of needless content will clutter the site making it unappealing. But then again, that’s just my opinion.

LOTUS: Yes, it’s definitely just your OPINION… and not a very good one in my OPINION. The notion was to give ideas to spruce up the site for more readership. I’m not a die hard and know all the ins and out of Ms Laws life as you seem to be. The ideas are meant to help give more life to a site that seems to be a good revenue generator for her. There are many FT bloggers whom this is their main revue stream.. and so someone like myself who does SM strategy for a living …my ideas were very good ones.

I’d like to first start off by saying that I admire your blog and the variety of information that you post. It’s great to be able to go one place for everything from music, to fashion, to politics. I do wish that the post came more often, however if it were to jeopardize the quality I would say continue to as you have been. I am a new business owner and people don’t understand that this is not something you are doing for fun, this is your baby, your child. So you want to be your best and want your team to be as well. if you have any doubts about the people working with you clear everything up before you move forward or sooner than later you’ll find yourself back in the same place. Pray and trust your heart, because the heart is Gods vehicle for answers. Be blessed love!

Thank you very much for this post. I hope that all is well with you and your staff and that everything works out for the best. I really loved this website and hope that you can get that good thing back!!

    As far as suggestions:
    1. your layout is great, and easy to navigate. I would just post small pictures when there are more than one picture instead of making people keep clicking next (sooo annoying)

    2. I love your fashion posts. Here we had a whole week of NYC fashion week and Nothing from you guys I was very dissappointed.

    3. Remain true to yourselves, Quaility not Quantity is a great slogan and I believe it is the reason why I love this so much.

    Best Wishes!!!

    • Karen

I actually disagree with #1. I find the website layout and everything else actually kind of irritating to navigate. I don’t think it’s very user friendly compared to a lot of other sites (not comparing to just other gossip sites – but just any other website in general). I have a lot more trouble loading to the next page after page after page on this site than any other. To me, it just needs to be a little less fussy, more streamlined. Anyone else feel the same? Sorry I can’t provide specifics on how to make it better. *shrug*

Keep up the posts regarding our history and people we may never have heard about. Also, you could have posts about people’s lives who are doing well or doing something different,ie world travelers, entrepreneurs, etc. While we enjoy reading about celebrities, we could do that anywhere and it would be wonderful if the site could do more to uplift and inspire us for greatness.Fashion would be great as well as another poster who mentioned having black artists who are in other genres of music

I think the site starting going downhill once celebrities starting shouting you out. You guys rarely post your opinions about anything anymore and I kinda missed how Angel would go in on people. I do check out the other urban blogs but CL has always been the best out of all of them to me. I say start being a blog again and stop kissing these celebrities asses!!

    Reply /0
    • Ashleigh

I think they wanted to be non-biased, which is why Angel stopped “going in on people”. Just the news, straight like it is, which is appreciated since Black people are often seen as confrontational.

    • debra

I Ditto that to, it seems very biased when you concentrate on only one or two celeberties constantly, not naming any names you know who they are. There are plenty of black celeberties that get no love at all on this site. Still a big fan of CL, I check in daily to see what is going on and mainly for the comments, got to love the freedom of speech

Angel, I’m a fan since 2007 i think, I’m from France and I bought your book on amazon..
you stated in in your book that the relation you built with the celebrities was almost like a partnership.. I think this is one major reason for this hardtime..
blogging for me means liberty of expression and eather it is good or bad critics, it is suppose to come from a heart, a lover of music, a wise opinion right, so when you seems to play it safely, we can sense that.
also, you like to introduce us to new upcoming artists, which I think is cool but you still treat Kanye and Rihanna (for exemple as god sends when they are totally exaspering us (at time i’m SOOO over them) you got to makes us believe that entertainment is not only about them.. stick with those new artists, through social media if it’s easy.
also, you throw the 5 years anniversary party, that included your readers, that means you care about them, and maybe their opinions.. Since the comment section is not going that strong, I suppose it’s time to go on the streets and bring some opinions to us from a reader perspective. now the creative work has to be done even more.
I would like Concretloop to grow and be more interractive. (videos and stuff)
Thank you for allowing us to express our feelings about that subject, I believe in you
(you inspired me to create my own blog, thank you!)

    Angel,
You already know how much of a big CL fan I am. I’m a major supporter of what you do, and I continue to check CL every day even with no updates, LOL. CL is one of the first websites I go to in the AM when I hit my computer. The only thing that I can ask for as a loyal reader is for you to take your time with redirecting what’s going on. A true fan of the website will want you to feel like your site is running the right way because you have been the driving force behind this blog from the start, people may come and go but this is your baby first. It would be wrong of me to make demands because all I do is come and read, and that doesn’t take the same amount of work you put into this for us. With that being said, You know where to find me if you need anything…

I have been saddened to see that the posts have been few and far between. I check your site twice a day and will continue to do so until you figure out what your new direction will be Angel.

I truly enjoy the format of the site and the topics you and your staff post about.

It is a great gumbo, where you have a mixture of quality topics. From history, music, fashion, politics and sports. I think you should continue with that and maybe expound on the Music portion(I am a music lover).

Thank you for asking us what we think, means alot that you care….

Thank you for the update, it’s just great to know you are ok & safe. I have a suggestion, maybe you can do a “Where are the now” There are artist that have not been on the seen for a while that I would like to know what they are doing now. Example: JJ Fad, Kwame, Special Ed, Good girls ETC. Dang I just told my age LOL. Just a thought :)

A “Where are they Now” section would be great but not only about singers/rappers. It would be great to know about other celebrities too such as actors/actresses, athletes, etc.

      I vote for this idea!
I also like the guess who posts so please keep those.
I think you used to do guess who posts with childhood pics. Those were fun. Blind items were fun. The posts that you do now are fine the way they are imo because you cover gossip, music, politics, fashion, a little bit of everything. This blog is the most diverse in content out of all of the urban blogs I visit but the updating does need to be more frequent. I understand quality over quantity but the quantity has to be there too in order to keep the attention of the readers. We live in a society of instant gratification so we are always wanting more more more lol. Overall I still love CL & it’s one of my regular stops when I’m surfing the net. Like someone said above Don’t let it die! This site is needed. It’s classy & helps to balance out some of the foolishness I see on other sites.

Concrete Loop was the 1st blog I found, told my friends about and frequented like 3 or 4 years ago. The problem is, news, gossip and updates have become so instant and easy to access without even searching. Twitter is the down fall of many a blog and the success of few. I appreciate you letting us know what’s up. I have always seen you as a pioneer and an image of a strong black female leader and I’m sure Jeh will sustain and direct you from here on out.

WoW! I’m actually surprised Angel posted this on CL. This shows she really does care about the future of this site because I was starting to wonder..

    I have a few tips.

    1. Be more opinionated. We respect your opinions and views that’s why we visit
    2. Do more interviews. Back when you first started your interviews were the best. I still remember your Kanye West interview. It was my favorite of all time.
    3. More video content..

I’m currently a writer for Kontrol Magazine and I’m certain that I’d do great! As far as the site goes, I enjoy the new artist spotlights so it’d be great if those continue in addition to more interviews with interesting people. I love this site! I think it’s movement started off great after the big party in NY then I don’t know what happened (or who won that contest to attend the event) but I just know that after the event the site seemed to be going in the right direction. It was more fashion and music and even political. Now it almost seems like it hasn’t been a priority for the ppl who run it. I just say find some ppl who are passionate about your brand. Hell even they’re own brand and they make a contribution to yours. Or a guess blogger every month could be cool too. (I’d be all over that) any way I say find a new aggressive* staff. Keep Brain tho…. I love him. I love you ma’am and I know the site is just gonna continue to grow.

Keep Your New Artist Spotlight! Love Those! The Round the Way Idea is nice but having to click to other links not so much. Maybe you could write a brief summary about it and provide links for those who may want to read more. Add more Black History Spotlights. At least once a month, they are so inspirational! Maybe on Thursday you can do a throwback edition of an old school video or an old article you posted years ago and give an update on it! Your blog is DEF one of the classiest and informative so no matter what you change always stay that way. Hope you find your way back to doing what you love

Update posts everyday even when you and staff don’t feel like it.

Some people don’t want to read stuff from an individual that sends hateful messages it may actually divert intelligent readers away from the blog. I agree Judah should be blocked this isn’t a trash site, it’s suppose to be quality.

LOL @ Judah. You know your posts are a little over the top and whether you do that on purpose or not one will never know. BUT what I can say is that at least when you are educating without offending there is much to be gleaned. That’s why you are brought up and it should be taken as a compliment. :)

Yes, RD is my biggest fan by far. She has a demon on her that she can’t get rid of which is why she’s captivated by my comments. She knows that I’m gifted but she’s frustrated that I don’t have the spiritual power to alleviate her of the le$bian demon that she has on her.

I agree, there definately needs to be stronger dictorship in the comment section, Angel. Commenters that jump on here with hateful anti-black women/men rhetoric should be banned.

      @ MORNING GLORY

Sheneneh lol…..instead of giving recommendations on who should be “banned”, go do something you’re qualified to do, like make a grilled government cheese sandwich. It’s a shame that exterminators don’t kill hoodrats. I’ve never at any time worried about who should be “banned” or not “banned”, but I will say this; the creator of this site needs to ban anyone that uses the word “dictorship” until that word actually exists lmao. I will assume that you mean the word “dictatorship”, and that shows how HYPOCRITICAL many of you black females are. You espouse dictatorial beliefs (which doesn’t surprise me because most black females are fascists), but out of the other corner of your mouth you’ll promote “voting for Obama”, which is part of the process of DEMOCRACY (which itself is allegedly, inherently ANTI-DICTATORSHIP). Your dumb a$$ probably tries to mail packages using food stamps. Get a grip. When you get to the point that you’re worried about “banning” someone, or leaving a website because of a commenter, that means your personal life is in shambles or non-existent (which is the case for most black females).

    Hi Angel,
Thanks for the update- I was starting to get a little concerned for a sec, as I schedule my daily breaks around reading the latest updates on your site and really it is always one of the highlights of my day :) . Anyhoo, we all understand that there maybe somethings that need reworking behind the scenes, so take your time and do what you feel is best. I never really leave any comments because I love reading the comments of my fellow CL readers, however this time I did want to let you know that I love CL because it rarely interjects opinons and dramatic insinuations about what may be going on in a particular picture- which speaks highly to your motto “Quality not Quantity”. And that is what keeps this site Classy (in my opinion). We all know where we can go to get the TRASH- but I love your site because it’s always funky, classy, and to the point. Regardless of the direction you decide to take the site, I just wanted to say THANK YOU as I have been an avid reader for years.

I loved your site since 2008 when I was checking out new music…definitely found a voice to express ourselves; but if I have one suggestion, it would be to post new music from artists and new artists that hasn’t been on the scene yet–that would give them a chance to shine

I have been following Concrete Loop for about 2 years and after looking at a couple of other sites it has made me appreciate you guys even more for the good work you do. I am happy to log on and see positive posts that aren’t like the trash I’ve seen elsewhere. Some times I find out about new songs and artists on Concrete Loop before I ever hear them on the radio and we as a community are always shown in a positive aspect so it’s things like that that I love about this website.

Of all the blogs I visit ConcreteLoop has and will always be my favorite because of the different topics that are chosen. I think there should be more posts daily. I love that this site is not only limited to celebrity stories and fashion and that should not be changed. You can bring back some of the fashion posts that were previously on the site. I have always appreciated the integrity on this site and I know in the future it will be maintained. Something new in the area of fashion could be a segment wear you allow your readers to showcase their style and then the other readers could post comments and critiques.

I am a regular reader of Concreteloop and I have introduced many family and friends to the site. I too, wondered what was happening with the site in the past week. I thought it was a family personal problem, so I am thankful that was not the situation. I wish you success in ironing out the background details of running the site and coming back better than ever. However, as loyal as some claim to be, I don’t think going away for months is a good idea. People would find other sites to visit regularly and this one would be off the radar. I think posting in a reduced capacity, maybe weekly or semi-weekly to keep people visiting would be better. Again, much continued success.

Finally a comment that makes sense. I like this blog to but let’s be real….. Who’s gonna hang around that long? That long of an absence is death in itself. This site doesn’t post enough articles when it is “up and running” so a couple of months are just…

First off, I wanted to say this has always been my go to site for fashion and news. Its informative and sophisticated, which is HUGE and a rarity amongst blogs. One thing I really do miss that I seldom to never see on your site anymore was “What They Rocked”. That’s always been a favorite of mine because I don’t see it often. And as a video artist, I really enjoys your shorts and interviews.

    Thanks for the update!

LOL that was the lamest joke you’ve made in a while. I expected a lot better Judah. While we are pointing things out there is no such thing as Nazi/Homeland security level. It is just Homeland security for the specific country. Thanks dummy. Lmao. So dumb but honestly believe you’re smart.

You believe (and KNOW) that I’m gifted, but you have trouble expressing your feelings. I wasn’t speaking literally, it was parabolic, but since you clearly want me to teach you something, what’s being done in America is according to what occurred in Nazi Germany and will end the same way. The burning of the Reichstag = the Twin towers “attack” on 9/11. The “War On Terror” = Hitler’s 3rd Reich. The Nazi scientists and propagandists were brought over to America in the aftermath of WWII in what is known as “Operation Paperclip” and grafted into the infrastructure of the American government……IDIOT. The Department of Homeland Security is based off of Hitler’s S.S……IDIOT. See there’s so much that you sisters can learn if you would humble yourselves and acknowledge that the man is your head. You don’t even know that “Allah” has nothing to do with the Bible lol. Instead you sisters prefer turmoil and fruitless confrontation due to excessive pride, which leads to your own destruction. The creator of this site is realizing that now.

Concrete Loop was the first entertainment blog I visited (back in 2009) and I’ve been visiting almost daily ever since. I love the fact that CL stays away from all the crazy “rumours” and mainly just posts facts.

    My suggestions:
    1. Photos – when you post pictures I think you should do something similar to Facebook, when you click a photo you can click next and the photo changes without everything else on the page such as the background changing, but still keep the thumbnails.
    2. Video/Audio – if there is a way, it would be nice if you could post more than 1 link because sometimes those of us who do not live in the States can’t see/hear the video because we don’t live in the “region” or whatever. If you can’t find an alternate link then of course that’s understandable.
    3. Posts – I LOVE the career inspired posts/interviews. CL should def. do more of those about aspiring fashion designers, artists, and other careers related to black entertainment like advertising/marketing/public relations for a music company or fashion designer, etc.
I’ll continue to check regularly, I hope you post every now and then to still attract people.

i’ve been on this site since 2006 and i am mainly checking it for music tracks and videos; but i thought i’d say that if you, Angel, feel like you need to put this site on hiatus or shut it whether it be permanently or temporary or something, because you have more important things to worry about, i would guess you should. i mean posting about celebs should not be a priority if you go through more important things in life – i am sure people can understand that

Just a few changes needed. 1. Updated the black background with an uplifting color. Angel just because you love black and browns does not mean your site should reflect that too, lol. I get down when I see hardly any vibrant colors on your site. 2. Try and change your post like every 3 hours. 4. Give us some new artists posts, we love new music finds that you used to post. 5. Be true to you and what you love, start posting those items that inspire you, we love that.

“…and yes we have fallen off” ROFL that made me laugh so hard.

    1. Update more often. I come to CL a few times a day for new posts and its never updated.
    2. Post new artist..I enjoy listening to new things.
    3. Change the layout sometimes..it gets boring.
    4. Maybe have more contests and more artist interviews.
    5. Although Beyonce & Nicki Minaj are popular..we don’t need to see them every other post.
    6. I love the graduation posts/pictures.
    7. Maybe add more fashion posts.
