Check out Episode 4 of ‘Philly Painting’, which chronicles a massive neighborhood beautification project in North Philadelphia. Famed ‘Favela Painting’ artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn (known as Haas & Hahn) have teamed up with some Philly residents to bring life back to the streets of Germantown and Lehigh Avenues.
In the latest episode, they follow life-long resident and Germantown Ave tour guide Keenan Jones. He shares his history with the area and why he thinks the project is going to help revitalize the community. Directed by Jon Kaufman and Seven Arne Halsema.

Wow it looks really nice. I remember seeing the first episode when they were first starting. Hope they are able to expand this to other cities.
They better do that tour early cause we all know that Germantown is not the best place to be walking around after hours! Video was well done.
“Germantown is not the best place to be walking around after hours!” that’s the vibe he’s trying to change. instead of negativity, he’s trying to bring positivity and a good vibe back to that community. we all can do the same thing in our own communities. it can be a small act as picking up litter, planting flowers and shrubs, cutting the grass. positive actions draw positive and proactive people. what have you done to help improve your community? i challenge you!

For a minute I thought I was listening to “Hustle Man” (Tracy Morgan) from the Martin Lawrence show offering to be the cut-rate wedding planner…armed with a shopping cart brimming with plastic flowers, chitlin loaf, and a 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor. “I don’t do dat for erra’body! I’m just tryna help YOU out!”
The neighborhood purveyor of questionable products and services “at a discount rate! “Martin! Hustle Man was just havin’ a goin’ outta’ business sale!” “Where’d he go Cole?” “I don’t know, but it was in the back of a police car!” lol
Great post and this project is amazing and positive.
Wow, that’s a great project and I hope other cities can join in. I think a beautiful environment is a major player in how people live.
What a great project!! Keenan Jones looks like a good tour guide too. Might do this before it gets too cold!
It looks like they mean well, and this brotha means well, but finger-painting projects and giving white women a tour of their neighborhood like they’re riding the trolly through Busch Gardens is not going to rejuvenate anything. The painters had their first “painting project” in Brazil, and decided to move the program to Philadelphia, which shows that neighborhoods in the supposed “best country in the world” are in as low an estate as “third world countries”…..or maybe America is a “third world country” now……
You sound like an idoit that thrive on folks responding to your garbage post. Save it!
@ BLUEBIRD
Didn’t you just respond?
@JUDAH
The so-called “black community” is already a sub-class, not even a so-called middle class as black people foolishly believe.
There are actually several neighborhoods that have turned around via such initiatives. Not all involving painting but beautifying.
several in Philly that is
So I just did some research on this project and I love what they are doing. They hire people from the neighborhood to do the painting, instead of just having some random people come in. I think that’s a factor that might make this work in some small way. When you have pride in yourself and your surroundings anything is possible. Good look Philly Painting.
This is a very nice post Loop. I am happy to see people trying to re-vitalize their neighborhoods and do positive things for the community. maybe this will help bring attention to the need for positive change throughout our urban centers. Hey it beats brothers shooting at each other over colors and ignorance. What up Judah!HUH!
LOL those folks looked so excited. White people love tours lol
