ALBUM PREVIEW: ALICIA KEYS ‘GIRL ON FIRE’

Her worst album to date.

I just bought it but couldn’t listen to all the songs in their entirety. It’s my least favorite album by her. Vocally, she really delivered though. “Brand New Me” is my favorite. “Fire We Make”, “Girl On Fire” and “One Thing” are nice. “Limited” was a nice surprise and more risky. I guess this is my top 5.
I feel like Alicia Keys has peaked musically. Thinking about about it, you could put all her albums together and it could work bacause it is almost the same stylistic routine everytime. She is the best at what she does but it’s becoming too predictable and boring.

The songs i like, but something is missing. Vocal execution is weak, unbelievably weak and boring! I think she’ll do ok though. I don’t know whether i’m the only one who sees this.

With the exception of her first two albums, Alicia’s albums all have different sounds to me. As I Am was very polished. The Element of Freedom had a very 80s Synth-Pop Vibe to me and this one is much more Outspoken. I love the album and I feel like if people were more fluid listeners, they’d appreciate her music and realize that she’s an ever evolving artist that is not going to give you what you expect to hear each go ’round. Vocally, this album is better than her last. There is more control and more creativity with how she fuses her voice to fit the theme of the songs (Fire We Make, Not Even a King). Overall, it’s a great album. One of the best releases from a singer in her “genre” this year next to Channel Orange.

Okay, I will give it a go round and see for my self.

I thoroughly enjoyed this album, it’s not her best but overall a great album. I will be purchasing this at midnight. Some people will not like it because its not radio friendly (which I like).

I can not buy an Alicia Keys album. I am just not a fan of her voice, so I definitely could not do an entire album of her singing. No shade, I wish her well, just my opinion.

Okay. Ive loved AK for a long time. I respect her gift with that piano, I mean, she is amazing. BUT this album sounds like she is FIGHTING to get through those notes and it doesnt sound cute at all. I am really trying to love it but I just cant. Her VOICE sounds like its on Fire to be honest. I just dont know. I think she burned her voice out

my least favorite by her, BUT its not bad, i can play it & let it go all the way thru without skippin any, but it doesnt have that umpg like usual, ELEMENT OF FREEDOM was slept on, BUT WOW SUCH AN AMAZING CD!

“Fire We Make” is the shit and she needs to release it NOW. For those complaining about vocals…………….this is an Alicia Keys post.

I honestly feel like this is one of her best albums yet. This record will be a force for the remainder of 2012 as well as going into 2013. This is what ppl have been asking of alicia for a long time for her to step out of her element and not be so repetitive and now that she has done that you don’t like it smh. As far as vocals i love how raw and raspy her voice is you don’t have to have a high pitched voice to be a great singer and for someone who was named artist of the decade she has to be doing something right

Im in the minority here because I loved Element of Freedom. She finally put some Prince sounding uptempos on that album that helped break up the balladry. This album is actually not bad but she should have pushed it back and worked on creating some strong up tempos. This is the type of album you listen to on a chill night. Loved Brand New Me. Describes where I am at right now. 101 is another great song. Her songwriting is what saves her. I’ve noticed that with early 2000 artists, their voices have waned. She has lost a lot of power and range, but she has been adjusting to her “new voice” by scalling back vocally on some of the songs.

I buying his album and I dnt have the money too, but i really like the complexity in the pino the drumbs the uptempos are more frequen. the writing is far more better and shes singing more than yelling. she yelled on elements…YLG thats he element symbol of her yelling…this is her best yet!!!#TRUEFAN#KNOWMYSHIT. a minor is her her best one,but she was younger so she cant be doingthe same stuff.#5 i sbetter than 4 and is neck to neck with as I am.

I have been a huge fan of Alicia since the beginning, I have all her albums which are ALL amazing! I have to say I was a little hesitant if this album would be as good as the others but knowing that shes never let her fans down before I had hope. GOF is such a great album! I’ve listened to it from start to finish without skipping a single song just like all the rest! this album will DEFINITELY be album of the year!!!

This album is brilliant. And trust me, it’s tough for me to admit because I don’t support “homewreckers” either (although no one really knows what happened behind closed doors( — but you’ve got to give credit where it’s due… the lyrics, the arrangements, this is a solid album. Respect. Good job Alicia.

So i see Alicia has her internet trolls on the blogs today but check this, NO ONE IS CHEKN for this album…Sorry it is NOT HOTT!

I guess I will give it a listen for free! I agree that she has hit her peak with the vocals…she is always straining to get the notes out! SMH

Girl on Fire is horrible to me. I won’t even waste my time on the rest. You have to grab me and make me want to hear the rest. She didn’t.

I really like the album. I can do without the title track but aside from that, it’s really nice. Starts out strong, kind of waivers in the middle, and then finished strong. She didn’t go too mainstream but she also kept true to herself. I don’t see how people can be mad at that or have anything negative to say…

Everyone is calling her a home wrecker but everyone seems to forget that Swizz/Mashonda announced their divorce in April 2008 and he had a daughter in May 2008 by another woman that Mashonda never mentions. Alicia is only getting called out because she is more famous than the other woman he had a child with during his marriage.
Alicia should not be judged on how she lives her life. Her singing has nothing to do with this.

Her best album yet! I think its amazing that she has not let the humiliation of her relationship, negativity, and becoming a mother defeat her career. She sounds more empowered, real, and genuine. “Brand New Me” is my favorite song, along w/ “Fire We Make” featuring Maxwell. This album, YEA, she did it!

So far I’ve only listen to it like twice and really I don’t like it. Everything is too “pop”, … Far far from her first and second albums… I’ll need to listen to it again and maybe I’ll change my mind but I doubt so.

This album is terrible! Not like AK at all. I’ve loved all her albums to date, this one is lame.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!! I was afraid that I’ll get disappointed, but I don’t regret geting it at all. She’s still AK and ‘brandnew me’ says it all about her new attitude. I inspire her even more, and her and her piano skills are still coordinating. I will still support AK, because she’s worth it.
