‘ROUND THE WAY: ‘UNCLE RUCKUS’ MOVIE LOOKING FOR FUNDING

January 31st, 2013

If you’re not a fan of the cult classic animated series ‘BOONDOCKS’, then you may not be familiar with one of its most memorable characters, Uncle Ruckus. In short, he is a self-hating black man that finds fault with his own people but will promote and support “white people”.

‘BOONDOCKS’ creator Aaron McGruder recently started a Kickstarter to help fund a live action movie named after Uncle Ruckus. According to the Kickstarter page:

We are raising funds for an R-rated theatrical comedy featuring Uncle Ruckus, to be produced this year. The movie will be written and directed by AARON MCGRUDER, and stars GARY ANTHONY WILLIAMS – who does the voice of Uncle Ruckus on the animated series. The story, which is currently being written, will not involve any of the other regular BOONDOCKS characters, but rather explore a part of the Ruckus family not seen in the show. [ READ MORE ]

I actually would watch a movie about this, especially since the creator of the character would be writing/directing it. Don’t think he is going to make that Kickstarter asking price though!!

I would think after Sam Jackson’s version of Uncle Ruckus in Django Unchained, we’d have had enough of that. IMO, that type of character doesn’t deserve to be the protagonist. I mean, unless the ending deals with some deep introspection.
