Over the weekend, Atlanta had the privilege of celebrating 20 years of So So Def at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.
Everyone from the legendary record label showed up for performances, and there were a few other special guests that were unexpected but welcomed with open arms! The show was kicked off with Kriss Kross and rendition of the 1992 hit, “Jump,” which topped the charts for eight weeks. Following their performance, former Xcsape members LaTocha and Tamika Scott took the stage to with a couple of Xscape classics, without Tiny and Kandi.
Da Brat got the party hype with a performance of “Funkdafied,” followed by Jagged Edge and their hit, “Let’s Get Married.”
Producer Lil’ Jon challenged SoSo Def head Jermaine Durpi to a DJ battle, where they brought out acts like YoungBloodZ, Dem Franchize Boyz, Bone Crusher, J-Kwon, Lil’ Scrappy, Pastor Troy and Bow Wow, who continued after the set with a performance of “Outta My System,” joined by T-Pain, as well as his hits “Like You,” and “Let Me Hold You.”
The night continued with more performances from Jagged Edge, Nelly, Dondria, Anthony Hamilton, as well as a special guest appearance from Atlanta native Monica.
Later that night, Usher took the stage with Ludacris and Lil’ Jon and after a rendition of hometown anthem, “Welcome to Atlanta,” the crew set the stage for Jay-Z to join Jermaine Dupri for “Money Ain’t A Thang,” and afterwards, brought out Young Jeezy, who performed his current single, “R.I.P.”
The evening ended with a special visit from a glamorous Mariah Carey, who brought out a cake to celebrate with her longtime friend and collaborator. All in all, it seemed like an amazing event and with a host of surprised and star-studded fun! Congratulations to Jermaine Dupri on such a successful event! Check out some performance clips below!
