Concrete Loop was invited to the 6th Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon this past Oscar weekend in Los Angeles, California. The Lincoln sponsored event has been a highlight of the Oscar weekend since 2008 and this year was no different.
During the high profile event, the cast of the cult favorite show, ‘Girlfriends’ came together to honor show creator Mara Brock-Akil with her Essence ‘Visionary’ award. Actresses Tracee Ellis Ross, Persia White, Golden Brooks and Jill Marie Jones even sung a little bit of the ‘Girlfriends’ intro, which you can view above via our exclusive video below.
As most of you know, ‘Girlfriends’ premiered on UPN back in 2000 and stayed there until 2006. The show then jumped over to The CW, once UPN was no longer in existence. After 8 years, it was abruptly canceled by The CW and aired its final episode on February 11th 2008. Many fans were upset because we were left hanging without a final episode. If you’re a fan of the show, you will definitely appreciate what is said in this video.

This series was BEYOND amazing so happy to see them back together and honoring Mara for her great work, I wish they would do one more season or a TV movie that would be awesome

Not just WOMEN were inspired by Girlfriends which is why it really was so successful….It crossed gender, color, age, and fashion lines. I will forever love all my Girlfriends. And Ms. Mara Brock-Akil that means you to Mama!
If there every is another petition that comes out for just one movie as an official closer let us know! They have to end that show right, it’s never too late! They would make so many fans so happy, not mention it would be a box office smash, and that’s real talk!
That show was very funny, it would be good if they brought it back.
