In the ‘Style’ themed issue, Mary J. Blige sits down for her 10th cover story interview with VIBE and reveals how she is taking stock of things: from love and happiness, her career evolution, acting and what artists she currently listens to.

ON RIHANNA:
“I am so proud of what Rihanna is doing.” And adds, “She is speaking to her generation, and she’s living her life in front of them. I don’t even think she is purposely doing it. She’s such a beautiful girl, and I don’t think she knows she’s that beautiful. She’s just living her life, and leading her generation, and she has great, great songs.”

ON HER STYLE:
“I’ve evolved, I’m a woman now, and I’ve softened. I’ve been a tomboy my whole life. But then you get older, you get married, you soften up,” says Blige.

Mary also goes on to mention Adele, Amy Winehouse, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars as some of her other musical favorites. Look out for the issue when it hits stands next week.

  1. Not feeling that photo on the cover. Mary is way better looking than that. But I agree with her views on Rihanna. Rihanna seems far more genuine than most people in Music. The Chris Brown thing while many people disapprove it’s a life lesson that she has to experience for herself and at the end of the day people have to respect that. I just hope her female fans understand that Rihanna is making a personal choice for herself but it’s not good to stay in abusive relationships as a rule.

Your comment is really sad because on a post about ASAP Rocky you were talking about how you were tired of artists like him being about so called fashion, things other than music, yet, you’re a fan of Rihanna??? Rihanna is EXTREMELY FAKE and lost. There is nothing real about pretending to be a strong, smart, independent woman, and then turning into a crazy, drugged out mess a couple of years after the domestic violence incident.

    JUDAH

Mary J. Blige is not qualified to give her approval or disapproval on any topic on planet earth, other than singing off key.

But the point is that that is not what RIHANNA wants. I don’t understand why everyone has an opinion on this. How are people really trying to boycott a woman on what she chooses to do with HER LIFE? And not even like she’s hurting anyone. It’s HER life. She forgave dude. If he’s still a crazy woman beater she’ll find out. But it’s HER life. And really, no one would have known about this had some shady police officer not released the photo.

Eminem beat his woman, Terrence Howard beat his woman, Sean Penn beat his woman, TONS of men beat their women, but there isn’t a 1/5th of the hoopla b/c there were no pictures. Internet folk need to get their OWN life and stop worrying about what this stranger is doing with hers.

Calm down sweetie, it just gives a strong delusional message that it’s O.K. to go back to a woman beater, so what she forgave him and living her own Life, but she does have young impressionable fans that will and do follow in her unrealistic life style! We just hope and pray that he don’t beat her *ss again!

Mary really disappointed me with her idiotic comment. She’s too old to be looking up to a psychotic, immature, skank. Rihanna is the most overrated singer in today’s music. When she speaks, I cringe. She’s so uneducated, ghetto, and apathetic. She’s a horrible excuse for a woman and gets more and more childish as she gets older. How sad? She’s 25, I repeat, 25 years old and doesn’t have herself together. The reason why people on mainstream blogs bash her is because how she puts herself out to the public. Rihanna should have kept her mouth shut if she didn’t want people to judge her. Just shows how stupid she is. Why would you let everyone know about the incident and ruin your “abuser’s” career? I and other people kept saying it was a bad idea for her to do the interview, yet her stans kept saying “This woman got her a—whooped and y’all don’t care?” “ How dare y’all?” and “She can take about it to the public if she wants.” LOL, now y’all naïve stans wants to agree with her and said it’s nobody’s business. Then why does she keep inviting the media and public into her life with Chris Brown and her drugged out lifestyle?

  6. Mary, Mary, Mary…first that Burger King chicken commercial and now these comments. RiRi is not a role model any young girl should have. “Speaking to a Generation”…I think not, unless it’s saying it’s OK to be beat down by a man. Any women who would allow a man to beat her like a punching bag, then proceed to sneak around with him and now date the same dude. I would NOT want my daughter following in the footsteps of someone like her.

  7. Mary has a point Rhianna is living her life in front of her fans very eyes & doesn’t really care what others think of her. She obviously never got over Chris & she is letting her heart speak not what other are telling her to do. I never liked her until I saw her Oprah interview. She is very down to earth. Mary I never liked her either. But one thing U can’t deny is Mary is about is real as U can get. She played her relationship out publicly with Kc to when she was RiRi’s age. So I think she knows how it feels..Don’t judge! We all are human…..
