Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter-entrepreneur Kandi Burruss has been known to take a stab at almost anything! Check out her brand new gospel track, “Stay Prayed Up” featuring none other than Marvin Sapp.
The song, which was teased earlier on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, is already #1 on the iTunes Gospel chart!

I love this song
Love it! Kandi is really a talented young woman!
i really like the fact she put “i’m a sinner” in the lyrics. for we all have fallen short of God’s glory! alot of people tend to give the side-eye to R&B artists when the do a Gospel track and i’m sure Kandi already knew what she was in for. especially with her having a sex toy line i’m sure she knew alot of people would have something to say! i like the song and Marvin Sapp was a great addition.
I can see why true believers in religious community is offended by this type of song. This is exploitation at it’s finest. Kandi is using religious themes to sell secular music and to enrich herself in the process. The use of the I’m a sinner line is to cloud and excuse her background and intentions. The fact that this woman promotes sex and profits off the sex industry is not something to be taken lightly or excused. Kandi makes many choices which lead to profit for herself and she is not below using religion as a way to make even profit. It’s just too bad some people are too blinded by this woman to see exactly what she is up to.
I agree and disagree with some parts of your point. You make the assertion that this song IS exploitation as if that is a definite fact that Kandi is doing this ONLY to make money because she does, in fact, sell adult toys and openly engages in sexual topics. How can you be so sure of that? You can 100% say that she is doing this for financial gain.
The last I checked everybody needs to make money (of course, depending on how you view life may or may not contribute to how you see the need for that particular resource). And there are those who make money doing what they HAVE to do or doing what they LOVE to do. Kandi is a songwriter and, yes, she makes money doing that. As a matter of fact, she was a songwriter first before even doing RHOA (that’s before the sex talk show and the sex toy line.).
And when you speak of ‘True Believers’ in the religious community, do you mean people who live and learn through Christ, or are you thinking of people who are perfect?!?!?! Becuase as someone who is a Christian I can tell you. None of us are perfect nor will we ever be. No matter how many times you worship on Sundays.
Christians are people like everyone else. We live and learn and fall short like everyone else and if you can’t bring yourself to look in the mirror to see your own faults before telling me about what Kandi does, I really don’t see a point in casting a stone.
You either like the song, or you don’t.
P.S.: I like it.
Do you know Kandi’s net worth? It’s estimates somewhere around 30 Million Dollars so to say she is making this song because she has to make a living is moot. The reason Kandi is making this generic song “Stay Prayed Up (feat. Marvin Sapp)” is to mine EASY money from a very gullible crowd. A TRUE Christian does not sell sex toys or promote sex in the way that Kandi Burruss does. And this “nobody is perfect line” is one that is often employed to excuses any type of behavior that we already know is wrong. If everyone is doing something wrong in some sense or another then what is your responsibility to do the right thing? Oh right, under this “logic” you have no responsibility because everyone engages in the same thing. Hollywood loves for people to forget their values to be part of the “in crowd” and looking at the state of many in Hollywood we see exactly where that “thinking” leads to. This song is so obvious that it’s funny to see so many people saying how much they like it. Again, Kandi Burruss is very smart..using a few key phrases and getting a known gospel singer can lead to music success and more importantly profits for her.
I think you are on target here, Richard.
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. She has to provide for her family and selling sex toys is her choice. Get over yourself. This is a very personal song to me and means a lot. It does not matter what she sells. It only matters that God gets all her glory. Have you read your Bible lately. It says love thy neighbor. Not bash them because they create a song that means something to them. Get over yourself and stop being a hypocrite. God has the final say not you. Good song Kandi I enjoyed it and will listen to over and over again.
Nice collab.
This song SUCKS!!! Im sorry! I felt NOTHING listening to this horrible song… Sorry Kandi but you get 2 thumbs down for this one!
I wouldn’t choose your words verbatim, but these are my sentiments too. The song didn’t move me, and I thought it was mediocre at best.
I wonder if she giving 10% of the profit to the church?? I feel like Kandi is an Huster and will do anything to make a dollar, She should leave the Gospel songs for people that are actually serving God and stick to what she does best…Vibrators & Fornication!! The spirit of God was nowhere in this song either!!
Loving the song! We all fall short but as long as we continue to pray, we will get there.
fantasia would have killed this song
Jesus loves you Kandi. Keep doing great thing. I love your mama and daughter too…
Kandi has been through a lot. I’m glad she has finally found happiness. U have to be a sinner to know what to do to live a righteous life. That is what got her to this point…Now sh has a hit gospel song. Go figure
I love the song and Kandi is a real artist of many talents
Kandi did her thing and we love this song.
I don’t agree with the people that say “do you” and “everybody falls short” and “who are we to judge”. To these same people would you support your favorite gospel artist selling sex toys? Would you endorse your pastor having a talk show where he openly discusses his sex life? The answer is NO. Regardless to her reason behind the song there are some things that you don’t do, and justify in the name of God. People are so willing to believe in anything and when it’s not accepted you want to call naysayers haters. Some people take their walk with the Lord serious and don’t minimize in the effort to make a dollar.

What a wonderful song, it speaks volumes. We should all stay PRAYED UP!!!! Kandi, let the spirit lead you.
I dont like the song. I understand the words and her message but the song was not written well. She dont make you feel it and a gospel song is good when the artist make you feel it. I didn’t feel it jus saying….
I think the song does sort of present a conflict of interest
but lots people have done worst things I do agree as far a feeling the song I have
heard many songs that move me a whole lot more than this one on a scal of 1-10
i give it a 3

WOW!!!!….. Just cried the whole 4 minutes and 14 seconds of this song I absolutely LOVE it. This song went deep within me and touched my soul. In the last three years of my life I’ve been hit with many hardships, but with consistant prayer and faith I knew I would be ok. Hearing this song just makes me feel like Kandi was reading my mind and shouted out what I’ve been wanting to say. It’s really touching!
I love it. Just makes you want to get on your knees and ju
st pray.
I love this song, and if you have watched her on Atlanta Housewives, she explains why she did this and why she asked Marvin to sing with her. Who are we to judge? I can relate to this song because I lost my husband at a young age and I am raising my sons on my own, those that are critical of this song, have you listened to the lyrics?
Kandi, thank you for writing a song that I can relate to, it lifts me up as I continue on this earthly journey. Peace
What a great song…
Nice!
God bless Kandi, I enjoyed hearing this song. It help me to remember that God is on the throne and not to worry just pray and give it to God.
I stay prayed up. This song is inspirational and keeps me prayed up.nobody knows what is in peoples soul. We only see the surface. Try to stay prayed up.
Ah you people are hypocrites. Who are you to judge anybody? You don’t even know the women. Have you notice that she is on a reality t.v. show. Every single last one of us has fallen short from the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Neither one of us can condemn Kandi. Now if you were raise right. I know your mom probably told you don’t talk about someone if you ain’t doing better than them. She has to make a living right. Now the God I serve doesn’t stop loving us or taking care of us because of our job. Last time I check it wasn’t a sin for having sex or for using sex toys. Stop judging people. You judging and talking about her is a sin. She said in her song “I’m a sinner”. So she already admitted to God she was a sinner. So there is no reason to judge her anymore.
so called christians are the reason why there are so few true Christians today. Why go to church when Christians tear you down, there is no solace there. Thank goodness God is not like man. Just remember no sin is greater than the other. If we all are sinners then we all do things we know God is not proud of, the only difference here is that we know about hers and while you critics hide from man, you can’t hide from God. She sells sex toys and lives with a man and we all know about it, others lie, cheat, lust, steal etc. and we do not know about it, that doesn’t make one less sinful than her. This is her testimony and that of many others. The question is how do you deal with your sins? Pretend you are righteous? God bless everyone and why don’t you all pray for her? God bless and do go confess and testify and let’s see how different you are from her if your life and lies were to be made public.
