Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Bill Bellamy and Marlon Wayans united for a night of laughs on Wednesday night at New York City’s The Comedy Cellar at the Village Underground. The five comedians jumped on stage during the second-night of stand up comedy, which initially started out as an impromptu, surprise one-hour set by Rock, Wayans & Chappelle the night before.
This time around Questlove was in the house and shared some photos on his Instagram page of “#themaster5,” as he watched the funny men crack stomach-hurting jokes. He wrote a little blurb in one of his pics about how the 5 of them took turns joking for over an hour about everything from the Pope resigning to hilarious stories of the good old days to hanging out with Jay-Z. They even did a mini-cipher / roast session:
I once sat in on drums with Prince on bass, Sheila E on percussion, Frank Mcomb on keys, Rachelle Ferrell on vocals doing Stevie Wonder’s catalogue (who incidentally was also sitting in….with Joni Mitchell & Selma Hayek as our audience) and I *think* I might have felt as high as I did tonight. I was working on the other side of the world when suddenly I got a “get yo arse down here NOW!!!!!” text. Sure enough I made it just in time to see the best night ever at the comedy cellar: Hannibal was on 1st, then Chapelle did an amazing off the top bit about what life will be like in a South African jail with prosthetic legs…and the pope quitting his career too. & then the floodgates opened: Hart riffed on Spilling drinks on Hov then everyone got in a cipher doing a mini roast/dozens/lovefest about each other. It was honest to god like watching the comic version of “scenario” or “the symphony” jokes and punchlines were flying fast. Stories of way back when was told. And I had the best seat in the house (Dave told me to play piano….but I took the bench just to get a good view) amazing night watching themaster5
We would’ve loved to have been in the house for that epic show! Check out more pics in the gallery below. Shoutout to Questlove and Ardie for the pics!

Questlove compares this to ‘The Scenario’ of comedy and I’m mad as hell that I didn’t get to see this. I would have paid top dollar for this BUT, something tells me that this is a once in a lifetime show. Dang I would have loved to see this. Can somebody upload a recording or something?
My sentiments precisely!
This does not strike me as “once in a life time” event. Questlove is such a fan boy of pop culture that he loves just about everything LOL. There is only one person in this grouping that warrants any interest and that is Dave Chappelle. Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, and Marlon Wayans are SELL OUTS. Bill Bellamy is a never was. But Dave is interesting and curious in terms of a figure in comedy and a human being. I’m still not clear on what he is doing now. I thought he walked away from all this but he’s always at the edges. I would be interested to hear him air out Hollywood more but I’m not sure that will ever happen. But this group is hardly anything that unique.
Aww Man, I do love Comedy Cellar. Every time that I have been there someone pretty famous has performed. I would have liked to see this show!
Now they are showing that they know how to bring a sister out! Life is so serious and I never realized how much we need dudes like these around for more than just the existence of the art. Laughter can help a lot when things get serious. Comedy is like a form of therapy. When Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy were doing their thing, I could not understand the significance. Laughter is like a weapon. Mama use to always say when you fight, use what you got. If they get you down, bite the pi** out of ‘em because if you don’t fight when you get home ima whip your a**. Maybe mama knew more than she let on, but now I know that laughter is fair game when you are battling spiritual warfare. It is not dangerous, and it is free.
only funny folk i see in the pic is chris and dave. who are the others?
