Just when you thought you had time to let Clive Davis’ announcement marinate, Kelly Clarkson pumps the breaks on his memoir publicity parade!
The former American Idol finalist took to her twitter page on Tuesday afternoon to speak out against the music executive’s stories in his book and clear the air about what really went down while working with Davis.
Apparently, the 80-year old music vet wrote about how she was at the beginning of her career, recalling her as a very emotional singer, who sometimes became difficult to work with when it came to the direction of her songs and albums. According to the “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer, that was not at all true, adding that Davis “belittled” her, called her a “sh*tty writer” and has basically made her feel violated with his new tell-all book.
You can read all that Clarkson had to say after the jump.
February 19, 2013 – Hey y’all,
So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don’t have to cower to anyone – even Clive Davis.
First, he says I burst into “hysterical sobbing” in his office when he demanded Since You Been Gone be on my album. Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn’t be more proud of the life of that song. I resent him dampening that song in any way.
But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called “Because Of You.” I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a “sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.” He continued on about how the song didn’t rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with. But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn’t include that in the book.
He also goes on to say My December wasn’t successful because I co-penned the album and it didn’t have “pop hits”. Well, first let me say, I’ve co-penned many of my “pop hits.” Secondly, My December went platinum (It sold 20,000 less than All I Ever Wanted which followed My December.) Hardly a huge failure. Never Again, the ONLY single they released in the US from that record was a Top 10 hit. I am very proud of that and I have my fans to thank. But, again, what’s most interesting about his story is what he leaves out: He doesn’t mention how he stood up in front of his company at a convention and belittled me and my music and completely sabotaged the entire project. It never had a chance to reach it’s full potential. My December was an album I needed to make for myself for many reasons and the fact that I was so completely disregarded and disrespected was so disheartening, there really aren’t words to explain….
Anyway, I love my job. I love my music. I love my fans. I love my label and all of my professional relationships… now. And I am grateful for Clive for teaching me to know the difference.
Cheers to another amazing year! And, as always, thanks for listening!

Lawd, talk about drama! Let’s see who else speaks out against Clive Davis’ new book.

Wow, I hope she don’t end up in a swimming pool with a bottle of pills floating along side of her! but a hand clap for her standing up and telling the truth on how the $hit really went down!
LMAO @ ===>>
“I hope she don’t end up in a swimming pool with a bottle of pills floating along side of her”
I See What You Mean Though, This Industry Is Kinda Messed Up, Once You Tell The Truth You Disappear LOL
Lesson To Learn; NEVER Allow ANYONE To Bully You Into Submission!!
Out of all the Artists that this man has with this is the 1st time I’ve ever heard anyone say this kind of thing about him! Hmmm, her response to me makes what he said sound truthful.
Is she still signed to the J Records? If so career suicide!
I think she’s signed to RCA now. And I think she’s telling the truth. She wasn’t hesitant at the Grammys.
She is throwing #shade at him accusing him of having “memory lapses” too funny
Clive telling us he’s bi ( no shit ,) now lets out some of them minor aged boys & girls you violated Clive!!! I wont be purchasing this devils book, but if I were a consumer of the fuckery, I’d be disappointed that the biggest highlight was him telling us what we already knew, and his opinion of Kelly Clarkson….tell me how you loved Whitney so deeply that you partied a few feet from her dead body..
LMAO @ Memory Lapses,HILARIOUS!
Bitch be grateful …you came from no where…after that was said; you thanked him…So fuckin wack!
Wow! Now why she gotta be a “B” Kelly can voice her opinion! God knows Kelly is grateful for her career! And by the way Kelly music sells! And she were invited to perform @ The Inauguration! And Kelly knows what & how this man disrespect her! In the past; Some Rich folks think they have control or have power over people! Davis needs to retire!!!!!!
GO KC! Lol this industry is so messed up at times but she told the truth and she knows what she is doing …. God bless her
Yo Go Girl!!!
Kelly, be careful girl.. That will really get you popped. lmao
Telling it like it is…so many things happen to artists behind closed doors. I’m happy she came forward to let people know what really went down!
I’ve been known Clive Davis was not “bi” but just a gay man. He throws that term out as if it a pass to excuse his homosexuality. By saying “bi” gives him a reason to say, “yeah i was married, and had kids, but i also banged kids on the side.” I say this because my ex worked in the music industry. We went to Johnny Wright’s (Justin Timberlake’s manager) house in Orlando for a “party”. Guess who Clive rolled up in the limo with. It was Mario, when he first got signed back in the early 2000s. He was holding hands with Clive and kissing him in Johnny’s bowling alley built in his house. If you think I’m lying, I want you to YouTube a video of N’Sync rehearsing for their tour at Johnny Wright’s house. You can clearly see the bowling alley and they talk about it.
Clive is telling the truth and the truth is ” HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE”. Anyone can open themselves up to the same sex, then people wanna say they were born that way and compare it to being African American but AA’s don’t have a choice so people need to stop comparing being AA to being gay!!!!! Sorry gay people, I love you but it’s a choice and if we all chose to take that route there wouldn’t be anymore us. Just saying…………
Good for you Kelly for standing up for your self and telling your side of what really happened with you and this music giant. He has probably done this to so many artists and gotten away with it. You have to stand up for your self or you will fall for anything or any one!!! You have to show people how to treat you and speak to you in a respectful way or you will get run over!!!
The thing is out of all the artist that have truly worked their way to success why does Kelly Clarkson who is truly LUCKY to be in her position have to rise up against a legendary star maker like Clive Davis? I think it sends a very bad message to new artist to rebel against the person that gave you the opportunity in the first place. Kelly has been successful but her success is full of commercially forgettable songs which clearly says there was millions spent to help her become successful. Let’s not act like Kelly is writing classics and the audience she appeals to is open to everyone because NEWS FLASH: “IT”S NOT!!!!!!!! Just saying……………
Wont be surprised if she’s found dead, of an “accidental overdose”, or “suicide”….days after celebrating a grammy win!
@Realtalk All Day – Clive started it by talking about her in his book. She woul dnot have said anything if he kept her name out of his mouth. I believe her. I hate how he answered that question about partying while Whitney Houston lay dead in the room upstaris. Talking about she would have wanted them to continue on with the party. FOOLISHNESS. I don’t trust him at all. God be with Kelly though. Love her music and love her songs
It doesn’t matter Kelly is not in a position to be talking slick about CD. Like someone online said “Mediocre pop star manufactured by reality TV tries to increase profile by refuting the details of her own manufacture” that’s it in a nutshell. Where’s the humbleness? Kelly aint know Whitney, Celine or Mariah. I remember when they were fighting because she wanted to do things her way on her 2nd cd. Not a good look at all.
All these top record execs are sodomites, and thats why the young & fresh blow up, b/c thats how they like em. from clive, to quincy, to diddy etc. all of them promote homosexuality. Its part of their agenda among others. Im so proud of Kelly for not being paralyzed in fear like the rest of these devil worshipers and speaking out on what’s right and not letting anyone stop her. She may have made peace with the consequences, who knows…but we all should start doing the same and stop being zombies to the system.
I would be proud of Kelly if the same opportunity was afforded to a Jazmine Sullivan, etc.
I agree with the bad agenda of most record execs not being a good look and promoting BS but I aint feeling the little mediocre chic being allowed to talk slick but others better not or they would get shut down. If this was Beyonce sounding off on Clive Davis she would be made an example of and most here would be agreeing with it. That’s some real sad sh*t.
