Even though she didn’t take home the ‘Best Actress’ Oscar for her role in the cult hit ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’, 9 year-old Quvenzhane Wallis‘ career is still looking up. She is slated to play the lead role in the upcoming ‘Annie’ remake.
The film, due for release in late 2014, is to be produced by Sony’s Columbia Pictures and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment. The Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith was supposed to have the part but aged from consideration and also told her actor father that she just wanted to enjoy being a kid.

Quvenzhane also has another high profile role coming up, co-starring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The upcoming “Twelve Years a Slave” will be directed by Steve McQueen and released sometime next year.

I like her name and what she stands for which is being an individual. Names don’t make or break you. This girl is very unique and she is going places. I like the movie she was in and she really put in a performance.
The only problem I have with her name is her mother claiming the “Zhane” part means fairy in Swahili, which is straight up WRONG. The name/word “Zhane” doesn’t even exist in any shape or form in the Swahili language. Now that she is famous, and her name will be broadcast internationally, they might want rethink attributing any part of her name to Swahili. But wish her all the best though
