I don’t really watch ‘Love & Hip-Hop NY’ anymore but I decided to catch up on Monday night’s episode because of all the tweets about what cast member Jen The Pen said.
Following a verbal altercation with fellow reality TV star Raqi about their failed radio show attempt, Jen showed her true colors by saying she won’t have issues getting another radio gig because she was white. This erupted in a twitter firestorm which had a lot of people saying Jen showed her true colors.
If you didn’t know, Jen is the baby mother of rapper-ghost writer Consequence, who happens to be black. They have a young son together, so her comments definitely get the side eye. The mother of a child (who will be viewed as a minority when he gets older) has the nerve to say something like that? It’s a statement that screams entitlement. After the episode, Consequence then took to his twitter to defend her saying:
Jen is NOT a Racist. The hoe made her MAD n she defended herself in a racially insensitive manner. I wasn’t there n we are arguing about it
— Consequence (@ItsTheCons) February 5, 2013
Jen also tweeted a few things, which you can read below:
Please be clear anything regarding race was heat on the moment, the devil will bring out the worst in you.
— JenthePen (@JenthePen) February 5, 2013
Racist is the last thing I could EVER be. But being called an “entitled HONKY” on national is okay?
— JenthePen (@JenthePen) February 5, 2013
This is what my family is made of, if my comments affected anyone I apologize instagr.am/p/VVQGj_PCK0/

yeah Jen was wack for that. After seeing her setup with BIG TEETH this season, she is a lost cause. Having a baby by a man who doesn’t even look like he respects you shows that she has low sefl-esteem. She cries all the time.
As for the “being white” comment. She is right though. Black people and minorities have it harder in the work force but she is shacked up with a black man so she should know better than to say some shit like that.
Remember Ms RAQcoon started it by saying {Jen is Going to “White my wrongs” }in the studio interview///So In Jens Defense she just ended what RAQcoon started which should have never been spoken of in the first place even if Ms RAQcoon thought JENS Clean cut image would clean up RAQcoons Low Class Mouth…..
No Bueno In my eyes
with every cause there is an effect….lets focus on the cause of Jens Angry outburst!…
I wouldn’t call her racist, but she does have entitlement issues. Damn shame she is the mother of a bi-racial child. That kid is gonna have some issues growing up.
Typical. A black man defending a white woman after she said something wreckless.
Typical is a black male defending himself when a black female is attacking him lolol…..
Lolol
it was wrong for her to say that but she ain’t lying…lets be real she will get another job in radio before Raqi just off her color.
IF ITS TRUE OR NOT – IS DEFINITELY NOT THE POINT!!!!!! THE POINT ISSSS IF THIS IS YOUR TRAIN OF THOUGHT YOU MAY HAVE A RACE PROBLEM. YOU OBVIOUSLY THINK YOU ARE ENTITLED BECAUSE YOUR WHITE. I FEEL SORRY FOR HER SON THOUGH BECAUSE WHEN SHE MAKES RUDE COMMENTS LIKE THIS SHE IS DIRECTLY REFERRING TO HER SON!!!!!!!! HE MOST ABSOLUTELY BE SEEN AS BLACK IN AMERICA.
consequence is so ugly.
I never understand why people apologize after they say something they really mean. Ain’t nobody checking for Jen anyways.
What was so racist about a damn white woman telling the truth.
I never said she was racist. I said has a sense of entitlement. As a mother of a bi-racial kid, she should be more responsible with her words. It may be true, but the way she said it gets the side-eye.
Last time I checked, this is America!
Raqi was acting fowl in the studio. Up until the comments in questions, Jen was very much in the right. But the statement was weird and offhand. Consequence is a funny looking dude .. but his ghost writing pen definitely keeps the bills paid.
Wow. Had no idea Consequence has a baby moms…Well alrighty then.
Yeah, she didn’t have to state what a lot of people may believe to be true.
Not really a good look, if you ask me…
She’s white? …..
She looks Latino to me.
I only saw, I think, two episodes of this preposterous show and I couldn’t watch it anymore. It’s boring and the cast is lame. After watching the clip above, Jen is clearly egotistical and too conscious about race. Why would those words come out her mouth in front of a black woman, and when she has a black baby’s father and bi-racial child?
Please people, lets be real…Raqi took it there long before Jen. She said “Jen is going to WHITE my wrongs” which can be taken racially, because she thinks Jen being a white woman, with an “innocent” image, she will overcompensate for her own lack of class. I think Jen was completely “in line” when she said “I’m white it’ll get done”, all she did was bring it back to what Raqi started. I am a black woman writing this so lets not get sensitive.
Thank you!! You are absolutely correct. People are missing that fact. It should never be okay for either side to throw mud let alone to be upset when someone comes back at you.
But as a white(dog-face) woman with a biracial child that the world see as black, the comment was insensitive. Do you think whites view biracial people as white? No they seem them as black, but of course no one wants to be black. Also just because a white woman has a child with a black man or marries a black man that does not mean she is not racist. That is just like saying every white person that voted for the president is not racist, and we all know that is not true.
@Nikki YES! you are right!
So I guess we’re just going to ignore the fact that the “man” was calling another woman out of her name, huh? Shows how he mature he is and how he (probably) talks to and treats the women in his life.
As for ol’ girl, I don’t know where people get the idea that just because someone sleeps with a black person he/she cannot possible harbor racially insensitive views about black people and culture. #foh! I’m not feeling this chick, her show, her man nor his teeth. Thank you and goodbye.
HELLO PEOPLE!! WAAAKKKE UUUPP!! ya’ll tend to forget slave masters use to have secret relations with their slaves so saying she isnt racist b/c her man is black is a bunch of bs to me because being with Cons cud of been part of some mid-life crisis she was going thru and she just so happened to get stuck with the “flavor of the month.” I also agree with Ms. Laws, she obviously has a sense of entitlement and when people tell you straight to your face who they are…BELIEVE THEM! Especially when they’re backed into a corner, their character is not tested, it is REVEALED!
possibly* (not possible)
???
@Damn Right. You are damn right. Just because this horse faced heifer has a baby by a black man doesn’t make her racially sensitive. In fact, it may reinforce her belief in White supremacy. Perhaps she thinks she can get any Black man over a Black woman simply because she is White. I hate to think what she will teach her biracial child. That he/she is better than the “regular” Blacks because she is half White? I won’t say her words were racist; however, they reflect a imperical belief that because she is White, she is entitled to getting whatever she wants. Sadly that is the case in many aspects but it is not the rule or the law.
“In fact, it may reinforce her belief in White supremacy. Perhaps she thinks she can get any Black man over a Black woman simply because she is White. I hate to think what she will teach her biracial child. That he/she is better than the “regular” Blacks because she is half White?”–Darealist
You better say that.

Even though what she said is the truth, you never say that to someone.
raqui was reckless and fowl to begin with and Jen the Pen did say what she said “in the heat of the moment” (btw Jen that is the correct phrasiology, lol) but the bottom line is this “out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” heat of the moment or not. Period.
Jen was just saying what we all think. i don’t think she’s racist but it was reckless…. HOWEVER consequence is one ugly ass brother lol
I don’t think her comment was racially motivated. I believe she lashed out after being attacked by Raqi. Raqi said some pretty mean shyt ( not to mention getting loud & aggressive) and Jen defended herself. However, the comments were wrong and insensitive but I feel like she reacted before thinking. We all have said something in the heat of the moment and then regretted it later all because we were mad at the time.
I don’t see what the problem is here. Two females arguing are eventually going to do or say something crass and/base in an attempt to get a reaction. The black female stated that she was going for the jugular, and obviously so was the white female lol. Most black females love caucasian people in general, so I have no idea why anyone would be up in arms by the truth that cavewoman spoke.
Raqui is not black.
This argument is just an argument, she may not be a racist, but what Jen said is the truth. She’s white, she will get priveldge over most of us urban folks, who know hip hop, the history of hip hop and will make money off hip hop….she was absolutely right!
Let’s not forget Raqi or whatever her name was, was racist bk by calling her a Honky i think both parties were disgusting
Too often people confuse racist and racism. There is a difference. Some people are overtly and covertly racist, while others may say/do something that is racist, yet have no conscious knowledge. This is not the case. I don’t believe that Jen is racist, but shame on her because she KNOWS better. I’m not upset with her for stating truth, if she was woman enough to say it. Still, regardless it’s some stuff you don’t say, flat out. No matter how wrong Raqi was…the dispute could have been OVER by simply asking her driver to drive away, rolling the window up whatever because nothing else needed to be said once she stated that they see radio hosting differently. I’m not condoning Raqi’s behavior, but that doesn’t justify Jen’s remark. That was a low blow. People say things in the heat of the moment, but the fact remains that that comment came from a place of entitlement. So I’m not jumping to Jen’s defense by letting her off the hook on this one because her gloating sense of entitlement is distasteful, racially insensitive, and rooted in white supremacist ideology– ESPECIALLY, for a woman raising a black (bi-racial) son in America. Again, I’m not calling her racist, but the core of that statement is the logic of those who believe that being white makes them better than others. Let’s also be clear, Raqi called Jen a “white honkie” AFTER Jen made the comment about her “white privilege.” What was she as a black woman/woman of color supposed to make of that? I wouldn’t have said that, but I know she was baffled because I paused like…I was with Jen until she opened her mouth. Jen could have simply said the way I handle business or my attitude will take me further than you…not “I’m white and my white privilege.” – she might as well had said the N word. Racist language is racist language…And to add fuel to the fire, as if there isn’t enough images and music privy to the degradation of women, and black/women of color in particular…Cons, If Raqi is what she is, let her be, but it wasn’t necessary to further degrade by calling her a hoe via social network…I just hope that everyone learns a valuable lesson and tries to keep it positive.
THE TRUTH HURTS…….
Quite honestly everyone is sooooo hyped about what Jen said but did you all FORGET that Raqi was the one throwing the race card out about needed a white point of view..Jen “whiting her wrongs” like come the hell on no one was mad at that but the minute the girl gets attacked by Raqi and uses the fact that shes white everybody was to get all worked up and call the girl racist. oh please build a bridge and get over it. Both of them we’re wrong. Period.
Jen feels entitled because the society that we live in allows her to feel that way. Us as “black people” may fight the idea that we are looked over amongst “whites”, but the sooner we come to acknowledge this issue the sooner we can eliminate it.
The sooner Raqi ceases her flirting, the closer she gets to meeting radio program standards and keeping a show. This in itself increases her ability to compete against “white” women in radio. We have to work so much harder & give ourselves the encouragement & respect because it will not be openly given to us.
Personally, I wasn’t offended by what Jen said & I don’t believe she is racist. She knows how society & it’s system operates & she told it like it was. No, everything (especially negativity) does not need to be said but with a mouth like Raqi’s coming at you, she needed something to stop her in her tracks.”It felt like Jen dropped the bomb on me” -Raqi She threatened Jen physically, called her out her name & went as low as to “expose” pictures from Cons but everyone is hanging Jen? Raqi’s behavior is acceptable?
As far as her raising her son, I assume she will pass on these ideas not as to be negative but to provide him with more than a basic view of how society operates.
I PERSONALLY don’t give a damn if Raqi said “Jen will white my wrongs” (or something like that). Even if she is right about how she could get a job b/c she is white, it still doesn’t change the fact that at the end of the day what she said was wack and IS racist. A lot of times when people are mad they say how/ what they truely feel. If she didn’t feel what she said was wrong, then she wouldn’t feel the need to apologize on Twitter. And you can’t get me to believe that she hasn’t said things like that in the past. Smh…That white chick does not get a “pass” with me….she’s just mad she got caught on camera saying it!
From my understanding racist is believing that your race is the superior race so I don’t see the problem with being racist because to be completely honest I just recently realized I’m racist myself. It’s being prejudice that I have an issue with. I could be wrong but this is my point of view right now.
Jen the Pen is racist if she wasn’t she would not have made that comment. As for consequence ugly ass he is only with her because no black woman wants to date his big teeth ass and he doesn’t have any money anyway. When the few dollarz that he does have runs out her and her half white baby will be outta there too.
who cares? black folks are stupid for giving passes to these crackers in the first place. they always end up saying exactly what they feel and then we want to be mad. who gives a damn.
news flash cons has a line in his new cut that says light skin is right!
