Entertainment satire publication The Onion has been under fire after their failed humor attempt during Sunday night’s LIVE airing of the 85th Annual Academy Awards.
Shortly before the winner for Best Actress was announced, the paper’s Twitter account tweeted a disturbing “joke” about the 9-year-old history making nominee, Quvenzhané Wallis:
Everyone seems afraid to say it, but that Quvenzhane Wallis is kind of a c*nt right?
Unfortunately the vulgar tweet was favorited by 400+ of their followers, before it was deleted less than an hour later. Since then the company’s CEO, Steve Hannah has issued a public apology on their official Facebook Page. You can read the apology after the jump.

Dear Readers,
On behalf of The Onion, I offer my personal apology to Quvenzhané Wallis and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the tweet that was circulated last night during the Oscars. It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting.
No person should be subjected to such a senseless, humorless comment masquerading as satire.
The tweet was taken down within an hour of publication. We have instituted new and tighter Twitter procedures to ensure that this kind of mistake does not occur again.
In addition, we are taking immediate steps to discipline those individuals responsible.
Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry.

Although she’s super intelligent, she is a mouthie little b-tch. She comes off as a wise ass. In the words of my grandma, “she a little mess” and not in a good way.

I can see why they would make such a comment but they should have known better than to use that word.
I think that it was very distasteful to regard a nine year old in that way. PERIOD. She might have a smart mouth BUT she is a child, we have to remember that and hopefully she will become more tame as she gets older.
She is a great actress and I am so proud that she was considered for an Academy Award for Best Actress. That is an accomplishment that no one can take away from her and I hope to see her in many more movies in the future.

I guess no one has seen the show “kids say the darn-est thing”…been at the family table with a mouthy kid…or seen half the millionaires that we are surrounded by…they start of like her…and leave a legacy…she is a CHILD…who has done what no one else has…and I’m sure if her mouth was “too much” for the dang director…she wouldn’t be in the position she is in now. She has an outgoing spirit…she is wise beyond her years and she knows what she wants! none of this extra bs on shows…interviews is her focus…she is living her life at an age most of you wish you could have…let the little girl live!!!!
If nobody tells her how to regress, her public persona will not be appreciated. Talent will get you but so far, great personality, hard work, and dedication will take you around the world.

Let us not forget as an adolescent we use to do things like her (not be nominated for an Oscars), have a smart mouth and do certain things that made people take a second look. We had to be taught the right things and so will she. Children will do childish things and as they grow and mature they will learn what to say & how to act.
Quvenzhané Wallis is a very intelligent little girl and I congratulate her for being the youngest person to be nominated at the Oscars. We need to congratulate more and put down less.

Yes, there would be all this fuss if it were a child of a different race. That is a nasty word to call anyone of any age and any race and to use it in relation to a 9 year old CHILD is disgusting. I’ve never seen a child of another race referred to in such a disgusting and disrespectful way and I hope that all this fuss as you call it means that no child is ever referred to in that way again. The problem with our society is that many adults have no moral compass anymore so they cant be proper guides to the youth.
I have been saying this for the last couple months. She’s not going to make it in the business being this way. She did one movie and now she has gotten a big head. But I can see how this would happen when your on TV, in movies, doing interviews and everyone is telling you you are great. she’s 9 so it’s going to happen. A 9 year olds judgment of others reaction to their behavior would be lacking. There are many stars who think highly of themselves but they reign it in. Someone needs to tell her to stay in a child’s place.
