With the most nominations this year at the Grammy Awards, and arguably snubbed, Frank Ocean took the stage to perform his controversial track, “Forrest Gump,” from his debut album, Channel Orange.
The performance was well-produced, with huge screens and video production. But judging from tweets viewed on our Twitter account, a lot of fans were disappointed with the performance. Was the vocal a little pitchy? Do you feel as though Frank’s nerves got the best of him? Was there too much pressure with him as a newcomer with so many nominations this year? Weigh in in the comments below!

Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. I wonder who he was thinking about as he was performing….you could see it in his eyes.
Kanye. When you read that tell-all 10 years from now, don’t say I didn’t tell you. Lol!
I love Frank, but I was disappointed. The song choice wasn’t bad, It just needed some energy. And he was pitchy. I really think his nerves got the best of him. Like me12 said, you can tell he wasn’t really there. He has amazing talent.
I keep hearing people say he is “so amazing” or is an “amazing talent” but I have yet to see any proof of that on stage at any given time. I think he is all hype and no substance.
It wasn’t that bad…he just sounded slightly nervous. I liked it otherwise.
Frank is just not that great of an artist. His performance was terrible and it’s all because he fell under pressure. The real winner tonight was Chris Brown. Rihanna sung that song to him with passion and everyone who’s anyone knows she was pouring her heart out to her man. Frank, on the other hand, could fulfill his end if the bargain. He’s overhyped…
it’s all about perspective….great performance
i don’t think frank ocean is as much of a singer as he is an artist….good reflection…to all the forefathers who had to toil before us, make a better life for us, and sacrifice for this generation…thank you!
one could say the same thing about beyonce she’s not a singer but a performer…but that’s exactly why she shouldn’t have agreed to sing the star spangled banner at the
inaugration …..it was beyond out of her range– not of voice– but ability…to give a quality, resounding, high level performance worthy of a world-stage…she shouldn’t have been the choice….can you imagine having real musicians faking playing their instruments because you are soo out of place….
Comparing Beyonce to Frank Ocean is a sure sign of someone TONEDEAF and a bit of ignorance!!!!!!!!!! You should leave posting about music alone cause it’s not a good look for you.
where is kathleen battle?
whitney houston’s rendition is good but others can sing the star spangled banner just as good or better….where’s kathleen battle?
or denyce graves
yea it was pitchy he could’ve done better… he was nervous… but i mean PRINCE was there soo..
It wasn’t bad but the whistling at the end was awkward – I turned to my sister to tell her to stop the whistling until I noticed it was Frank.
I’m sorry but Frank Ocean is 100% HYPE. If this dude was not gay and out people would not care at all. This dude came into the Grammy’s with the most nominations and only left with 1 and 1/2. That tells you all you need to know about Frank. This guy is also very delusional….I honestly think he though he would walk away with Album of the YEAR. And his performance really showed his flaw. Take away the video show and you were left with nothing at all.
I honestly can’t say that I disagree.
I agree with the “hype” part, but I don’t think the number of Grammy’s anyone has is demonstrative of their talent. I mean hell, Ashanti has a Grammy. Lol! To me, the Grammy’s are becoming more and more equivalent to the MTV Awards. It no longer has that upscale, Oscar feel which is probably why they implemented that dress code thhis year.
I TOTALLY agree. Frank is DEFINITELY rubbing someone the right way that is the only way to explain his existence on the music scene.
I don’t think I could have said it any better than you just did.#realtalkallday
I dunno about the grammy winnings. India Arie was nominated for 6 grammys in 2002 and left with 0. you can’t say she’s isn’t real or good music.
I’m sorry I can’t ride this Frank Ocean train. I just think he is not good vocally. I believe he can write, but to me his writing is not overly drastic the way people make it seem. I have previewed the album and didn’t think anything of it besides the fact that now I know he sings about men. Nobody talked about this guy until he came out the closet just in time for his album release, then suddenly he became “the artist”…not convinced
Anyway, I liked his performance. I thought he sounded okay and I liked the backdrop. Just goes to show that you don’t always need a lot of hoopla for a performance.
Its sad to think that you need very little talent to be consider and recording artist.,there was a time when someone with his talent couldnt even get a meeting with an executive. I dont understand…. he is not a great performer nor songwriter. THINK ABOUT IT.. lyrically he is not saying anything there are rules to songwriting. SAD… I wish we could be excited about watching the GRAMMYS like we were when WHITNEY, MICHEAL,ETC was going to perform or win a well deserved award. Frank should not EVER SING.. what key was he in?
Very true and well said. Music is dumbed down and political today. We have to get back to real music somehow but it looks grim as hell out here. It’s all about BS and hype. I got mad love for Katie Perry but for her to have the same amount of #1s as Michael jackson “says it all”. #1 don’t mean sh*t no more. Awards and accolades for the most part are purchased today.
