Gun violence has sadly become a norm on the streets of Chicago and it seems like every day we are hearing about more shootings in America’s fourth largest city.
On Monday, March 11, 6-month old Jonylah Watkins was shot, while her father was changing her diaper. Her father, Jonathan Watkins amazingly survived. But sadly Jonylah’s life was cut short after extensive surgery.
Chicago’s very own Lupe Fiasco has decided to step up and touch on the story in song. The Food & Liquor rapper released a tribute track entitled, “Jonylah Forever” to the 6-month old. Listen to the heartfelt song below.

Jonylah’s funeral will be held at 11 AM CST on Tuesday, March 19th at New Beginnings Church in the South Side’s Woodlawn area. The wake will be at 10 AM with visitation being held at Leak Funeral Home from 6PM-10PM on Monday, March 17. There is a $11,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the gunman.
Ok on another Web site they have a pic of the father or that clown getting out of the hospital throwing up the peace sign smiling with no sign of remorse at all, and the story is still out on how this child actually died, some say he was changing her diaper (his story) and some say she was in his lap and he used her as a shield to protect him from the bullets, and she was only shot once not 5 times, just don’t know what to believe behind this! but the loss of that child is so sad and such a shame! R.I.P lil Jonylah.
There is no way he should have been coming out the hospital flashing any kind of signs.When those bullets started flying,he should have used himself as human shield but instead an innocent baby is dead because of his gang affiliated lifestyle.
This song is beautiful and touching. Not just because of whom it was dedicated to, but Lupe really painted a beautiful picture with the words.
@ Kiddo, it’s sad to see people don’t respect life anymore. Something is going on in that part of Chicago where people are lacking that ability to empathize or feel the pain of loss. It’s like someone did an experiment to find out how humans would adapt to constant violence and loss, and we find out that they just stop caring.
It’s clear the silly dad used his baby as a shield….this is so sad #1 problem they have in Chicago is they have a Gun Ban leaving criminals in the chi and surrounding cities who already have guns illegally, free to Target innocent individuals who can’t defend themselves because our government says it’s illegal to have a gun. RIP Jonylah.

She’s so beautiful. Every time I see her picture I instinctively smile back and then I remember that she’s dead. Too bad her father didn’t appreciate his beautiful daughter enough to leave his thugging life behind.
Well, if he is going to tribute for her, he might as well do one for every child who dies there on a daily basis. Poor baby
