Former Youtube sensation Dondria Fields gets fierce for the new cover of BE magazine. This time around the 45th digital edition celebrates the longevity of her home label, So So Def. Inside, the 26 year-old singer talks about music, working with label founder, Jermaine Dupri as well as the first time she hear Xscape’s classic hit, “Just Kickin’ It”:
ON WORKING WITH SO SO DEF & JERMAINE DUPRI:
“It’s really exciting, especially right now. They are my family and they always show me love. JD is our common denominator and I think we all appreciate him and what he’s done for us thus far. I will definitely BE proud to carry on the torch and celebrate the next 20 years.”
ON HEARING XSCAPE’S “JUST KICKIN’ IT” FOR THE 1ST TIME:
“I felt like having a house party. LOL It’s such a cooooool record. Like how can you NOT love it? They should have found me and put me in the video… LOL”

poor thang….i bet she wishes that she’d never signed with “so-so” def.
how in the !@#$ does janelle monae have contracts, endorsements, covers, and albums???????????????????????????????????
These poor girls, and guys sign on to these disorganized labels that have no vision whatsoever, believing a promise of stardom….years later, all they can say is they’re signed, they spend time in “da lab”, and have “new music/EPs” coming soon. Meanwhile, as bonnie stated, artists like Janelle Monae have endorsements, contracts…radio-play.
I’m willing to bet that Laurie and Bonnie are the same person. 2 trolls for the price of one.
And FYI: Janelle Monae has endorsements, contracts and radio play becuase she put in the work to create a critically acclaimed album (according to TIME and NY TIMES) and her stage presence is nothing to compete with I mean, how often do you get to see an urban artist perform at Nobel Peace Prize ceremony). You can google it if you like.
And Dondria is still a budding artist with a steadily growing fanbase. One mixtape and an album doesn’t get you to stardom in an instant, you gotta work for it. JD is known to nurture every artist he’s worked with, and that takes time. But since you know so much who am I kidding.
