Destiny’s Child former group mate Michelle Williams stopped by Univision’s “Despierta América” to promote the award-winning Broadway musical “Fela!” which debuted in Miami this week.
The multi-award winning international singer joined Spanish language television’s number one morning show (translation: Wake Up America) and discussed the details about her role and the musical’s plot.
“Fela!” follows a Nigerian musician, composer and human activist. The musical is produced by Shawn Carter (neé Jay-Z), Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and The Roots’ band member, Questlove.
According to Williams, “Fela!” and its production crew allowed for an audience that follows the likes of Jay-Z and Will Smith –– who otherwise would not take interest in Broadway –– to actually attend a show. Williams, who characterizes Sandra Izsadore, plays Fela’s lover and teacher; a fiery, long-locked, Black woman of eminent strength.
I love it… Sandra is sassy and feisty and gets to tell Fela what to do!
So powerful is the play that during a celebratory moment, a woman from the audience got up and joined the cast in a cultural dance called “Yellow Fever.” The event had such a powerful impact on the lady (who was previously diagnosed with cancer) that she later wrote a letter of gratitude, explaining the apparent and sudden disappearance of cancer in her body.
Talk about a miracle! We wish Michelle Williams continued success with Broadway. For tickets or more information about “Fela!” visit HERE. First peep the star, on set, in our gallery above.
