Don’t you miss the UPN sitcom, Girlfriends? Well it looks like the show’s creator & producer, Mara Brock-Akil is feeling a little nostalgic herself. Either that or people have been chirping in her ear about it lately.

The Northwestern University alum took to her twitter page and posted a status about possibly starting a kick-starter/crowd fund raiser to help reunite the cast of Girlfriends and possibly film a new movie based on the television series:

Just last month, the cast and Mara reunited at the Annual Essence ‘Black Women in Hollywood’ event in Los Angeles. Make sure you view our exclusive video of the touching moment via the link above.

in related news,

A kickstarter started for another throwback television series, Veronica Mars. In less than 24 hours, the series raised over $3 million. So if you’re a fan of the show and want to see it hit the movie screens, follow her on Twitter (@MaraBrockAkil) or her production company on Facebook (Akil Productions TV).

Sadly, I don’t think it would raise enough money.

is it going to be a tv movie or big screen because that’s kind of messed up if we have to fund it and then have to pay to see it in theaters. I would happily donate if its going to be on tv.

Nobody needs to see these four bugged out negro bedwenches and that confused “male friend” they had in a movie lol. I guess they need to do a black version of the “Sex In the City” movie like they did the tv series so they can keep up with the cavewoman and her satanism.

I would be interested in seeing this movie. I don’t think it will be a blockbuster, but it will draw some attention.

I’m still trying the figure out why this show was even canceled?? If the Sex in the City Girls can make movie spin-offs, why can’t they? I’m ALL for it!

I would LOVE to see a Girlfriends movie, but instead of hosting this internet fundraiser to fund the film, how about shopping the idea around to major film production companies so the Girlfriends project can be done properly (like Lionsgate, Paramount, Universal Pictures, etc…)!!!! Great idea, Mara.
