Going against the old adage “The revolution will not be televised” is Sean “P-Diddy” Combs with new REVOLT TV network, slated to cause a “revolutionary” upsurge in the new generation. Not that Diddy is what comes to mind when united citizens gather to claim power but, nevertheless, the business mogul parcels up his new endeavor as such.
The music-themed cable TV network –– fusing round-the-clock tunes and news content –– is scheduled to premiere this Summer, July 2013. Distributed through Comcast and co-founded by former MTV programming headman, Andy Schuon, the network will be “the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media,” said Combs to the Los Angeles Times.
Albeit the concept is encouraging, it’s hardly novel (i.e. Aspire, BET, Bounce TV, OWN). With the intent to draw the attention of a minority audience, what will the content include? Please don’t say reality TV. Only recently did BET revamp its programming with fresh productions. And Aspire (Magic Johnson’s cable TV) was supposed to implement “the next BET.” Question: Who watches?
Can’t say this is over-the-moon news, but we’ll stay tuned. Will you? Tell us how you feel about Diddy’s forthcoming television project.
