In a first-time TV appearance since she admitted having used racial monikers, Paula Deen sat down with TODAY’s Matt Lauer in an emotionally, tearful interview.
When asked by Lauer whether she was a racist or not, the celebrity chef frankly responded to Matt, saying:
No. I believe that … every one of God’s creatures was created equal. I believe that everyone should be treated equal, that’s the way I was raised and that’s the way I live my life.
Deen went on to explain that as a businesswoman, she feels Food Network’s decision to abort her contract was not rightfully justified, and then she added by stating that she was unsure whether the N-word was offensive to black people.
When Food Network terminated Deen’s contract, Smithfield Foods followed suit. QVC, Sears and Target are all reevaluating their business venture with the Southern cook.
Shortly following Deen’s interview with Lauer, Caesars Entertainment Corporation announced that it had decided to not continue a business relationship with Deen’s company, Paula Deen Enterprises (Caesars runs Paula Deen-themed restaurants at four of its properties).
