Soul singer Chrisette Michele dropped by offices of Motown records in New York City (June 10). The R&B songbird hosted a small listening party where she performed an acoustic version of cuts from her new album including “Better,” “Rich Hipster,” “Love Won’t Leave Me,” and “A Couple of Forevers.”
The Long Island-native also chatted with Hello Beautiful and discussed her latest compilation, Better, how she transitioned from her last album and openly admitted that she’s different when it comes to the subject of love:
[...] It’s easier to be mad, than to be in love in front of people. Cause I’m that black girl who’s angry. It’s easy to be her. But to be the soft happy black girl who actually likes her man thats not talking about him all the time and is so in love that girls be like ‘girl you sprung’ yes, I’m sprung.
But regardless, the 30-year-old explained how the project allowed her to be open and express the way she is today — which is a more sensual and honest Chrisette. Check out her performance of “Rich Hipster” down below. Head over to YouKnowIGotSoul to watch her perform other songs.
