According to reports, First Lady Michelle Obama was confronted by an LGBT rights activist at a private fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee on Tuesday night (June 4) in Washington, D.C.
The heckler, who is reportedly 56 year-old Ellen Sturtz, kept interrupting Mrs. Obama during a point in her speech where she was speaking about children and their futures. Mrs. Obama stopped mid-sentence and said:
One of the things I don’t do well is this..
She left the podium and moved toward Sturtz, saying:
Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.
Sturtz, who said she spent $500 for a plate at the fundraiser, spoke with the Huffington Post about the incident:
Basically, I was asked by the first lady to be quiet, and I can’t be quiet any longer. I was surprised by how negative the crowd seemed to be. It was actually a little unsettling and disturbing.
