Lil Mama recently chatted with The Hollie Wood & Friends Show on Blog Talk Radio this past Sunday (June 16th). In a 20 minute interview, the “Lipgloss” rapper discussed her new role in the upcoming TLC biopic.
While many didn’t care for the Harlem rapper to play the role of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, producers loved her! But it wasn’t handed to her, she had to work for it.
What did you do to prepare for the [TLC] role?
Even before getting the role…I watched the VH1 special with Left Eye. I watched many videos with Left Eye. I watched videos that many have not even seen before … she was a very innovative person and I was able to learn that about her through watching her videos.
And not that we were at all surprised, 23 year-old Niatia gave her two cents on female emcees and the lack of unity. Of course Nicki Minaj was mentioned. Peep the excerpt below of her response.
On female rappers out today:
There aren’t many female emcees and that’s the reason why we’re doing Hip Hop Sisters… We need to unify, we need to reunite. We need to understand that we all have different stories… I feel like we shouldnt bash each other or get on records and talk about how there’s no room for another female emcee… At the end of the day, we’re gonna have our battles but at the end of the day we should be able to get together and really enjoy each other.
On Nicki Minaj:
To be honest with you, a lot of the times I hear her say ‘I do this for women. I’m doing this for all of us’ when she’s accepting a BET Award. But other than that, I don’t see her putting no other women on. I don’t see her on tracks with other women that are current. I don’t see her embracing any other women so I feel like its really time for female emcees to start sticking together and put out some music.
