In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Serena Williams allegedly called out another tennis player, Maria Sharpova which ultimately drew widespread attention and apparently left a bad taste in Maria’s mouth.
While both are prepping for a battle on-the-court, the battle has now sparked off-the-courts. In her pre-tournament press conference this Saturday (June 22), the Russian pro-tennis player, Maria took the opportunity to take a stab at Williams:
Obviously I have a tremendous amount of respect for Serena and what she’s achieved on the court. If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids… Talk about other things, but not draw attention to other things. She has so much in her life, many positives, and I think that’s what it should be about.
This, in response to the defending champion’s (Williams) comments in the magazine which allegedly criticized Sharapova and her boyfriend, who is reportedly Serena’s ex-boyfriend, Grigor Dimitrov.
Anyway, Serena’s next step was to admit her faults as a human being and apologize for what was said following the controversial article:
Clearly, Serena doesn’t want a fight. Well, you know what they say “don’t come for me, unless I send for you.”
