For the first time in her career, singer/actress Brandy Norwood took to on the main stage during Day 1 of the annual Essence Music Festival. Held at mega Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Friday night, the R&B Diva gave thousands of onlookers nothing short of a great performance!
Flaunting her trim figure with a black laced-top, Brandy gave us all some leg as she wore a black pair of super-short gold-studded shorts.
In regards to the show, Ms. Norwood opened up with her 2002 single, “What About Us?,” then danced her way into her other 90s classic songs like, “Sitting Up in My Room,” “Best Friend,” and “I Wanna Be Down.” We must say, when Brandy took the crowd back to 1998 and started singing “The Boy is Mine,” one couldn’t help but hope that Monica would surprisingly come out from backstage and sing her parts of the duet! But of course, that was just wishful thinking!
One of the major highlights of Brandy’s set was her tribute to her mentor/dear friend, the late Whitney Houston. The 34-year-old veteran went in and sang her heart over Houston hits like, “I’m Your Baby” and “How Will I Know.” Everyone could tell without a doubt that Ms. Whitney was in heaven smiling in approval.
All and all, Brandy performing at the Essence Music Festival was a long-awaited event that should have happened years ago. Giving her the opportunity to perform live at one of the largest African-American curated events was well deserved in our book!
