With the recent premiere of the Forest Whitaker-produced film, Fruitvale Station, actors Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer are making their last set of promo rounds.
Jordan, who brings to life the role of Oscar Grant (fatally shot in 2009 by Oakland Transit Station officers) and Spencer, who plays his mother, adorn the August 12th issue of JET magazine.
Inside, the two talk about their latest big-screen feature and, while taking us behind the scenes, discuss how comparable Fruitvale Station is to the recent Trayvon Martin case. Jordan says:
Unfortunately with these cases you see a person’s character is put on trial. It’s taken into two totally different directions. You see this villain, this monster, so with this project, we really wanted to give him his humanity back. To show a day in the life of what this guy was like during his day-to-day routine. To really understand who this guy was… I think it’s very important and very relevant because of the Trayvon Martin case and the millions of Trayvon Martins and Oscar Grants around the world whose stories never get told.
