On Sunday (July 21) opposing groups of protestors united on the streets of an affluent Houston neighborhood in response to George Zimmerman’s not-guilty verdict, announced earlier this month.
A flock of about 80 people convened in Houston’s River Oaks area, of which some arrived holding American flags and in support of the stand-your-ground self-defense laws.
According to Daily Mail, members were seen holding signs that read “We’re racist and proud” and “Remove the Black Panthers from the USA.”
Beyonce & Jay-Z Join Sybrina Fulton & Al Sharpton in New York Protest
Mr. and Mrs. Carter joined Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, as she –– along with Rev. Al Sharpton –– talked to crowds in Manhattan about national debates over self-defense laws, guns, and racial matters.
Today it was my son. Tomorrow it might be yours… Of course we are hurting. Of course we are shocked and disappointed, but that just means we have to roll up our sleeves and continue to fight.
Sharpton’s National Action Network structured Justice for Trayvon rallies and vigils outside government buildings at noon in over 100 cities, from New York and Los Angeles to Birmingham, Alabama.
On Saturday morning he informed supporters in Manhattan that he wants a reversion of stand-your-ground self-defense laws.
We are trying to change laws so that this never, ever happens again… We have the strength to wipe our tears away. Last Saturday we cried. This Saturday we march.
