At a very young age, Sevyn Streeter had eyes on becoming a singer. Little did she know, her dreams would come true and take her to where she is today.
Formerly of the girl groups, TG4 and Rich Girl, the singer-songerwriter is embarking a solo career as the up-and-coming recording artist of Atlantic Records and Chris Brown Entertainment. Aside from writing records for the likes of Brandy, Fantasia, Kelly Rowland, Ariana Grande, Chris Brown and more, Sevyn has dropped jams of her own like “I Like It” and “It Won’t Stop.”
Concrete Loop had the opportunity to put Sevyn in the hot seat and find out more about her story, how her experience was performing on this year’s BET’s Rip the Runway and who she has been working with on her upcoming, untitled album.
Watch the full clip up top and peep a couple excerpts from the interview after the jump!
ON PERFORMING ON BET’S ‘RIP THE RUNWAY’:
I had a great time! The energy was crazy. You had friends [like Kelly Rowland] who were hosting. You know during my soundcheck, she actually came out and said, ‘Yeah, you know, make sure they shoot her from that angle because that’s like that. And I was just like, ‘Aww, I love you.’ So it was good. I loved doing Rip the Runway. It was my first time ever performing “I Like It” on television and it was great. I had a really good time!
ON HER UPCOMING SOLO ALBUM:
I just want it to be a good album. That’s just so important to me. I want people to feel like man, I took my time with it and they’re getting a good quality piece of work. So I’m very excited about my album. I wish it was coming out tomorrow.
ON HER FAVORITE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE:
It’s not about the destination. It’s about the journey.
