In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, political and social leaders, entrepreneurs, and other distinguished guests came together to celebrate his legacy for the ‘March on Washington’. Speakers included former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King III, Bernice King, Forest Whitaker, Jamie Foxx, and President Barack Obama, among others.
In his speech up top, President Obama challenges us all to become a more unified nation, and work past our racial inequalities. One such important quote of his speech being:
The arc of the moral universe may bend toward justice but it doesn’t bend on its own.
Other important moments came from those in entertainment and media, specifically that of Oprah Winfrey and Jamie Foxx.
We can be inspired, and we too can be courageous to walk in the footsteps of the path he forged. He’s the one that reminded us that ‘we will never walk alone’.
Says Jamie Foxx:
What we need to do now is, the young folks pick it up now, so that when we’re eighty-seven years old, talking to the other young folks, we can say it was me. Will Smith, Jay Z, Kanye, Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, the list goes on and on.
