In a recent visit to Los Angeles, G.O.O.D Music’s affiliate Big Sean stopped by the Rolling Out offices to chat. The Detroit rapper opened up about his dating life with the Glee actress Naya Riveria.
I never dated a girl who was popular. I don’t think about it. I never look at it like I have a popular girlfriend; I look at it like I have a girlfriend. At the end of the day, I’m her boyfriend. It’s never Hollywood-type stuff. I don’t treat her any different because of who she is, she don’t treat me any different because of who I am. [...] It’s a cool thing. [There’s] definitely a difference, but it’s been awhile since I’ve been this happy in a relationship.
The 25-year-old emcee also broke his silence surrounding the Kendrick Lamar verse on his “Control” record.
At first, I was cracking up [when I heard his verse], like ‘What’s this fool on?’ He’s just saying it’s competition. Everybody thinks they’re the best. That’s why we do it — to be the best. I thought it was positive for hip-hop. [...] But the fact that Kendrick did that name-dropping took it over the top. But that’s what it’s about. I’m happy I made that play and I orchestrated and owned that moment in hip-hop. We all had our parts, and Kendrick definitely delivered on it. We all delivered on it. I’ve never seen hip-hop so energized. It’s awesome.
